For those asking about Civil Service work and the LCAT:Update regarding civil service titles and the OOP:

Part 599 regulations for OMH programs specifically list the LCAT as a professional title in

these programs. You can access the guidance document and regulations at http://www.omh.ny.gov/omhweb/clinic_restructuring/part599/guidance.pdf

Civil Service was asked to

amend their titles. This is not

something that the OOP/Education Department can do. NY Mental

Health Counseling Assn has met with Civil Service to discuss the topic.

Our associations NYATA and AATA are working on a plan for that now. It would be advised for other Creative Arts Therapy Associations to do the same.

The Civil Service title

issue is also in the OOP report to the Legislature (pp. 22-23), which is on their

website: http://www.op.nysed.gov/surveys/mhpsw/FinalRpt_6-29-12.pdf.

Just some thoughts to offset some e-mails:

If you follow Non-Profit

Press you already know that one of the obstacles in getting Civil Service to

change their titles is money. Licensed

positions require higher salaries. As I

understand it, the first step was the above OOP regulations. The second is the various organizations

meeting with Civil Service. There are no guarantees

here as I am not clear on consequences. I

am working on getting clarity on that now and will update when I know more.Michele Michele Amendolari MA, ATR-BC, LCAT Governmental Affairs Chair, New York Art Therapy Association
