summer volunteer opportunities

Hello NYCCAT!There are three different summer volunteer opportunities for you creative arts therapists, students, or those interested in the helping professions.  All camps listed are through the non-profit organization One Heartland - http://www.oneheartland.org/

Birch Family Camp (who I am working with) serves NYC families who are impacted by HIV and AIDS.  It is a unique program, in that the entire families can attend. While kids experience a traditional summer camp, parents learn important life skills as well as meet and bond with others dealing with similar challenges. 

There are two seperate sessions - one August 13-August 18th and the second August 20th - August 26th.  Email at jennykelly@... for more information.

We have a new Camp serving NYC youth this

year called True Colors Camp in partnership with Cyndi Lauper, True Colors

Fund, and Green Chimneys. The program is for young people 13-18 who

identify as LGBTQ who are living in transition or at risk for living in

transition(homeless). The program will take place Aug.

26th – 31st in Connecticut. The first year we are accepting 25 young people. If you

     All camps are sleep away. Volunteers are provided transportation to and from NYC to the camp in CT.  Lodging and food are provided, along with training on-site.Please pass the information along to your colleagues and networks. Thank you!
