The Littlestown Area School District will spend $8,100 to remove

mold in the high school.

Tuckey Restoration Inc. will clean and remove mold found on pipes in

the ceiling above the hallway outside of the band room.

The mold was found after a routine test, said Superintendent

McConaghy. The company will do a follow-up test after work is

complete.

No immediate health risks are associated with the mold, McConaghy

said. The company recommended it be taken care of soon, but not

immediately. The district decided to go with a contractor so

professionals would handle the job and not kick up any dust or

additional mold.

McConaghy said it's a two-day job, which will be done over a weekend

so it will not disrupt classes.

This is not the district's first run-in with mold.

Contractors came to the district in both 2003 and 2004 to remove

mold from Maple Avenue Middle School. The district spent $48,000 for

four infected rooms and a hallway at the middle school. One room was

so damaged from the removal process it had to be remodeled over the

summer. It was found with standing water behind the drywall.

Mold reappeared as patches of moisture in 2004 in two other

classrooms and the art room.
