Guest guest Posted October 15, 2007 Report Share Posted October 15, 2007 Cheryl, One of the symptoms a child being exposed to molds and mycotoxins may exhibit would be learning disabilities. If you suspect that your child is having neurocognitive difficulties - which many do - from your moldy home, wouldn't you and your husband want the house remediation before the child is placed in a potentially harmful environment? You can ask anybody on this board who has experienced the neurocognitive problems, it is terrifying - like one is losing their mind. It breaks my heart whenever I hear of parents, who have not experienced it and so therefore don't understand it, allowing their impacted children to be in such an environment. Do your children suffer from asthma-or have they been diagnosed w/asthma? If so let me know I can help you get around the school system with that diagnosis. Do any of your children have a 504? When my daughter was being exposed and after it was a nightmare for her. She was sooooo sick. They did the same testing your kids are having done. It is standard testing w/in district. This was in 2002. Now my son several years later is being tested this year. For my son if he is being exposed (and since exposure) in the classroom he has a difficult time concentrating, wiggles, looks into outer space (as the teachers describe it). Last year they tried to tell me he was ADD/ADHD but the doctor said nope. We do know that this year that he is not being exposed to mold at the school any longer as I had them get that cleaned 2 years ago and we do clearance testing each year at each of my childrens schools to make sure they are clear. How old were your boys? My son is 8 (oh let me say in case he reads this-soon to be 9). I am letting them do the testing with in district for learning disibilities. Even though I am sure they won't find a thing. If they didn't find a thing w/my daughter they sure the heck won't find anything w/him (so I think). As she was 100 times worse than he is. She out grew it though w/alot of hard work. Once they don't find anything the teachers have to step up and do their job. If they do find something that is impairing their learning, you want to know. Believe me, I didn't want to know for my daughter. But, now that she is classified as disabled under her 504 it is wonderful. So, I do kind of hope they find something w/him. He can use the extra help. I believe all children who have been exposed to mold or any type of harmful chemicals that effect their learning ability can use the extra help. We as parents don't want to think of our children as leaning disabled. BELIEVE ME!!!!!! But, after exposure many of them are, and parents are not informed and the children go thru school struggling. Most here on the group know of my journey w/my daughter and son. Mostly my daughter. I can tell you 6 years later she is functioning for the first time like a normal young lady. Her grades are outstanding. This is the first year she has not missed a day of school. She is really enjoying school. She is understanding everything and catching on. I am so proud of her, myself and this group for helping us get this far. I wish the school would have listened to me when she first started having these problems. It is a tough road when dealing w/sick children, especially after exposure. You also have to remember that it is not only the exposure that is effecting them, but also foods and chemicals that will effect them now, as well as their learning. Stay strong and remember we are willing to help. Bewing ill and confused about it is bad enough. Add family or even friends that don't understand and/or are not willing to really learn is way to overwhelming, even for an adult child...
