Mold at BOE

The floor where I work was evacuated yesterday because they found

mold in the ceiling, but I'm receiving emails from my supervisor

saying that they might have us going back to work on Monday. Several

people were sick Wednesday because they were moving boxes around and

storing them on our floor and left for the day. I had headaches and a

chronic cough that I couldn't shake. I actually had to get out of the

building for a couple of hourse so that I could breathe again to make

it to quiting time. I called in sick on Thursday because of severe

headaches, feverish and coughing. I was diagnosed with chronic asthma

Tuesday after several years of suffering with colds and flus that

would morph into severe bronchitis attacks. Now asthma and permantely

on Abudterol and on Qvar for the next several months.

I don't want to go back to that building, but I am not sure if I can

just give up 18 years of service with the state just like that. I'm

only two years away from retirement with 26 years of service. I

really am frustrated with this entire situation as the leaking, wet,

flooding, moldy/dusty smells in the building have been a part of my

working atmosphere for the last 7 1/2 years and nothing at all has

been done about it, although many people have complained since 2000

that they had health related issues because of the moldy, dirty,

dusty conditions in that building.

Plus, now my 2-year old grand-daughter that lives with my husband and

I has started coughing and sneezing quite a bit and I'm not all that

sure it isn't from the mold spores that are carried on my clothing

when I arrive from work, so another worry that I had not thought

about until all this broke loose.
