Guest guest
Interesting when do you get a fever? So far I haven't had any fevers or chills (my body temperature is normally very warm). Does the fever come with a certain bacteria? fevers come w/infections..i get frequent infections ..i call them flareups..it's typical of someone w/bronchiectasis..count your blessings and lucky stars if you're not having chills or fevers or that god awful arthritic body pain Never Look Down on SomeoneUnless You're Willing to Help Them UpWho's never won? Guest guest
from what I understand everyone with bronchiectasis can come down with pneumonia easily. Anytime we catch so much as a cold it could turn into pneumonia. At least thats what I understand. June K need help with this disease We are all fighting a disease nobody knows about. The doctors are trying but they are pretty helpless because a cure isnt known and the effects we live with every day are pretty terrible.Anyway Ive had this disease for about 10 or 12 years. Before that doctors thought I had allery trouble. When bronchiectasis was disagnosed it was mild and then after a pneumonia it became worse and worse after about 3 or 4 pneumonias. I had constant mucus and coughing and blood coming up and chills an feeling terrible and fevers and the whole 9 yards. I was a mess. Then I had a broncosphy in hospital with last pneumonia and they found a bug called nocardia. So the doctor put me on sulfatrim to kill this bug. Since I have been taking this drug I am perfectly well. I have no symptoms whatsoever of bronchiectasis. I have been taking this drug in syrup form, 2 teaspoons twice daily for 7 and a half months and I am perfect. Who knows what the future holds but its wonderful for now at least. I see the doctor next month and see what he says. Anyway I am 82 years old and since this is the 60 of yesterday I guess everything is going good. Maybe we can get to the cause of or cure of this disease if everyone tells their story. Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. And how good your doc is at finding that out.I know what you mean about the ‘whole 9 yards’ with the constant coughing gunk, fever, chills (I broke teeth!) and coughing blood (first time was when I was 20yo – 35 years ago..) I only found out it was part of bronc by accident on the internet circa 2000, and have had 3 pneumonia’s I know of...You are an inspiration, great to hear from you, it is so important for us younger ones to know that even though there may be times really, drastically unwell, it isn’t a permanent state. It does depend on a few factors coming together, and that’s where we can help each other...Stay well, stay young!! Guest guest
Hi , ( & thanks for your other email – I’ll sit when I have more time to write) - re fevers: from what I understand it is the body’s normal response to infx, bacterial or viral (as with the flu). It is a mechanism to produce antibodies to fight off the offending organism – so unless life-threatening, it is better to let fevers run their course w fluids and a little honey for energy. It isn’t so much a question of which bacterium, but how much, or how many different bacteria/viruses etc are involved. eg, a low level will cause low-grade infx, and a build-up or an exacerbation is an acute infx most likely to have fever - I don’t know why I stopped getting fevers – maybe after the IV abx the infx level went from near acute nearly all the time to low-grade / moderate mostly... Or, is it my body has become so accustomed, it just doesn’t bother any more! Have asked doc, but no real answer... Since the bacteria which become the culprits in bronc v often are just bacteria normally around and in e’thing, I have come to the conclusion that you still have a life to live, and being fearful is far more likely to lower resistance to infx more than anything else Cheers, all, Joy -- -- " Wealth is nothing, position is nothing, fame is nothing.
