That's cheating!!!! Old CAD would generate " receive " time as soon as the

format for entereing a new call was opened. If you opened a new incident and

for what ever reason didn't use it and left it open on your screen and used

later, showed a big gap between receive and dispatch. Now with new CAD you

can enter 99% of the information prior to entereing the call. As soon as you

hit enter the receive time is generated. The only calls that show

received/dispatch and arrival as the same are the officer initiated activity

calls (such as traffic stops).

I've never totaly trusted the CAD printout for times ever since many moons

ago at my former agency, my shift got hollered at big time about a delayed

response to a robbery call. On the audio tape, from time I answered the

9-1-1 call to the time the first officer was on scene was less then 45

seconds but the cad, beast that it was, showed 3 minutes for dispatch and

more for arrival because of all the steps the dispatcher had to take in

clearing the unit from a previously assigned call, adding officers,

remembering to arrive units yada yada yada. So I think Audio tapes are

better for showing true times no matter how fast you type in the CAd.

I can only add AMEN and AMEN. Many cad systems require a number of steps in

getting the

call dispatched, especially if a unit is being rerouted. If I have to

reroute unit A to a call I have

six steps to take to get that officer off the call if he is primary, then I

have two steps to put him on

the new assignment. That is if everything works the way it is supposed to,

however Mr. will

usually show up and you have to repeat at least part of the process.

The CAD system we are beta testing allows us to assign units to call even if

they haven't cleared their prior call. We don't have to clear the other

call first. We can always manually enter the time the second call was

dispatched as the time the first call was cleared.

I don't think you should always rely on one instrument to give a clear

picture of the call. The radio doesn't tell you everything, just as the CAD

doesn't tell you everything, just as the phone calls don't tell you

everything. If there are any questions, I check all three.... and STILL I

ask the dispatcher or officer.....
