Guest guest
Lynn, you didn't say if you had a blood glucose meter. It's the only way you can check your condition. I found that starches of any kind, cereals, bread, pasta pizza rice corn potato raised my sugars and I have to eat them in very limited amounts. I turned to fruits for the main source of carbohydrates, with lots of fiber, vitamins, minerals and pectin. (soluble fiber) Regards, Sam in San Diego
Guest guest
No Blood Glucose Monitor either! I know I have to have one but it has to be prescribed. Maybe I need to call my doctor tomorrow and get one ordered. My grandfather was diabetic and so is my mother. I have an aunt on the other side of the family who also has diabetes. I don't know what my PCP was thinking when he did not tell me to get a monitor. YIKES!!! Lynn

Guest guest
I hate to tell you, , but it isn't unusual for a GP or a Family Doc not to pursue diabetes much when it is in the early stages. When you start getting sick from it they are much more interested in you . A meter is one of the most important tools you will ever find in this fight. It will give you control of knowing how any food affects you and give you the power of fighting back. get one asap! They aren't terribly expensive (if you cant find a free one) cause the companies make their money off the strips. Good luck! Meenie Re: Hello I'm Back Too >From: mums_dads_girl1@... Guest guest
My Presicion has a 35.00 rebate and when I sen in my warranty they will send me a 5 dollar coupon and there is another one in my book for 5 dolars. So I think I am getting a good deal of my 74.00 back. LOL Lynn
Guest guest
, call the drugstores and ask if they know of any of the manufacturers of meters have specials or rebates. Usually at least one does all the time. You can probably get it free or for a little of nothing, then get dr. to write pres. for strips. My nurse educator told us to try calling the company that you'd like their monitor and tell them you needed one and ask them what they could do. Lots of times they will give you one free....just like Meenie said, they make the money on strips. It's worth a try, isn't it? Good luck.
