Guest guest
If you are a renter and live in California and pay below market rate because you are living in a rental unit that is covered by a rent-stabilization ordinance that ties rent increases to the cost of living for housing. You should be aware that there is a proposition on the Calif. ballot for next November that deceptively advertises itself as being against eminent domain, but its real intent is to end rent stabilization forever on units that the landlord managed to make vacant once. So I think that the number of people who are forced out of units by mold and other forms of harassment will go up dramatically as the financial reward will get much higher. This law will change forever the character of California communities and force many poor people to move elsewhere, raising the cost of living there, in all probability, as well. This is going to particularly effect people whose salaries have not followed the increases in the going rate for housing in the past years. There will be nowhere to go. It will also increase the cost of food, etc. in cities as businesses will not be able to find employees who will work for the wages they are paying currently in the state.
