Dear Fellow Members:

I do a free 2-3 hour powerpoint training/workshop on managing challenging

behaviors in children with neuropsychiatric impairments--I can do it for

parents, caregivers and schools. it is an evidenced based model based on Ross

Greene's work at Yale University, and from work with brain injured children.

Although it does include some positive behvioral techniques, it also includes

information/techniques on enviornmental modification.

Although it is designed for children who can communicate their needs, I believe

it can be adapted for non verbal children; (although that is not currently a

part of this training, I would welcome any input from parents on ways to make

this model wotk with nonverbal children).

A city in Maine (Sanford) has adopted this model with their school district and

police dept, and the state of Oregon has implemented this model in their CPS

division. Yale and Harvard use this model in their Child Psychiatric units in

the hospital.

I have a Masters degree in Child Psychiatric Nursing, teach psychiatric nursing

at UTA College of Nursing, and am licensed as a Board Certified Psychiatric

Clinical Nurse Specialist (RN, CNS/PMH-BC)

I am also a parent with 2 children in the Autism Spectrum, and 2 children with

ADHD, and have found these strategies to be very helpful in my own life.

I really beleive in this model for working with our children's behavior, love to

teach, and would like to see this model " catch fire " as an alternative to the

standard disciplinary techniques being used in the schools and hospitals here

that generally do not work with our kids.

If anyone is interested in learning more, or setting up a class, please let me

know.

Again there is no fee attached to this, and it is just my desire to share

information that I think is so meaningful and helpful

Thank you for your interest
