The girl, a student at Broughal Middle School, became sick on Wednesday or Thursday of last week, said Superintendent ph . He said test results showed the meningitis is neither viral or bacterial, the more severe of the two forms of meningitis. The infection is an inflammation of fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. today said the girl, whom he declined to identify, is not yet back in school, but is expected to return soon. He said the Bethlehem Health Bureau has been notified about the test results. Meningitis cases are often caused by viruses or bacteria, but may also be related to fungi and other organisms, according to The Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media.
