Happy New Year everyone! My sister just sent me these two links - I thought they

were interesting. It sounds like this caregiver could definetely use the

encouragement of this sight. Also, the first article is from November and the

second is a follow up article posted today.

Violent behavior hurts family effort to place 68-year-old

By Black

Tribune staff reporter

January 1 2008

Turned away from state institutions and nursing homes because of violent

outbursts, a 68-year-old man with dementia and mental illness remains " in limbo "

at a Waukegan psychiatric hospital two months after his family pleaded for help.

Harold s, a former Oak Lawn resident, has been at Vista Medical Center

West in Waukegan since Sept. 14 when he was arrested at the North Chicago

Veterans Administration Medical Center's psychiatric unit for hitting a nurse.

The center, which housed s off and on since November 2004, has refused to

allow him to return, citing the safety of patients and staff.

Re: Re: VA Hospitals

Hey ,

We go to the VA in Decatur Ga. Just outside Atlanta. I can tell you if you go to

the website you can find out a lot of info. VA.gov. The hospital and nursing

home are @ the same location. The hospital is great. The nursing home not so

great. I put Tom in the nursing home for 13 days respite. When I went to pick

him up he was a mess. I ended up taking him to the VA. emergency room. They

admitted him for kidney failure and he has been in the hospital ever since. I am

sorry to say he is now waiting placement in a nursing home, but Not that nursing

home. The folks at the hospital are wonderful. Here in Metro ATL. we have

clinics also. So please check out the website. It helps me a lot.

Thanks Stacey! We are in south Georgia - I'm in Waycross, Dad is in

Ocilla, and my sister is in Macon. Is the VA in Decatur a home or

just a hospital? We have been looking into the VA home in

Milledgeville. I'd love to hear anything you know about any resources

in GA. Do you know of any good doctors? The only help we found was at

Mayo in JAX but that was two years ago.

Thanks!

setting up an appointment to go visit. I enjoy reading your posts.

Keep up the good work!
