I have also never seen it, but I've never had occasion to use less than

0.5 mg at a time. Every reference I've seen in over 20 years documents

that phenomenon. I've only seen one vague explanation. Supposedly with

small doses, there is a feedback mechanism that triggers increased

parasympathetic tone which is able to override and overwhelm the effects

of small atropine doses. Why this doesn't happen with only slightly

larger doses wasn't explained. If anyone knows more about this aspect of

atropine usage, I would love them to share it with us. Just my luck, one

of my students will ask and there I'll be with atropine all over my

face.
