Guest guest
Jeff: I have also never seen it, but I've never had occasion to use less than 0.5 mg at a time. Every reference I've seen in over 20 years documents that phenomenon. I've only seen one vague explanation. Supposedly with small doses, there is a feedback mechanism that triggers increased parasympathetic tone which is able to override and overwhelm the effects of small atropine doses. Why this doesn't happen with only slightly larger doses wasn't explained. If anyone knows more about this aspect of atropine usage, I would love them to share it with us. Just my luck, one of my students will ask and there I'll be with atropine all over my face.
