Guest guest
It is not unusual for Hashimoto's thyroiditis to begin after various infections. If you would like to post your lab results together with the reference ranges and the exact name of each test, we may be able to offer some suggestions. For Hashimoto's, the treatment goal is not just "normal range". Read the chapter on Hashimoto's in Thyroid Manager. They state a treatment goal of TSH between 0.3 and 1.0. Some good alternative docs like it even lower. It may be that you could benefit from treatment. >> hi. My journey to find answers started a few years ago. I'm 47 yo F. it started with 10 cases of strep in 8 months. I then had my tonsils out. i seemed to be better, but since then i am still getting strep about once every 3 months. I have been to a reg dr, ENT and immunologist. None seem to know what to do anymore. In the meantime i had some blood tests done that show i am getting Hashimotos. my peroxidose is high but my t3 and t4 are normal. So they won't treat me. I am now realizing a lot of symptoms i have had are probably due to the thyroid: can't lose weight, forgetful, easily agitated, swollen fingers. > I would appreciate any advice and would like to know if anyone thinks the strep and hashis could be related. I don't know what to do and am starting to get depressed going thru this so often. I feel crazy.> Also, any dr advice would be appreciated.> thank you!>

Guest guest
"under 14" is a strange sounding range. Do you have the actual lab report or did they just read you the numbers over the phone? That sounds like a range for antibodies of some sort. Your Free T4 of 1.08 is in the lower half of its range. You might benefit from a trial thyroid hormone. Your only hope may be my favorite surgery: a radical doctorectomy! Cut him off right where it will hurt him the most: in the . . . . uh. . . . .wallet! > > >> > > hi. Guest guest
you are right! That should be 2.5 (2.3-4.2) so is the T4 in the lower half good or bad? Also is it normal to just re test the T4? thank you so much! > > > > > > > > hi. My journey to find answers started a few years ago. Guest guest
It's actually silly to just test the Free T4. The Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone. Many of us feel best with the free T4 above mid-range and the Free T3 in the upper part of the range. I felt like a slug when my TSH was 1.7 and my Free T4 was barely within range.
