Guest guest
a, Thanks so much for that article. I have printed a copy and am planning to read it as soon as I get Kaylee down for a nap. Guest guest
Hi Sandy...I am Ross. My son is now 6. He also lost words when he was younger and really did not babble at all as a baby. He had Apraxia . The article is great. That was one of the first things I read when was diagnosed with Apraxia at 2. I think that you should have Kaylee evaluated by a qualified Speech therapist to see if she has APRAXIA because the sooner you start working on it the better. Have you ever heard her ST mention Motor Planning? That is another term for Apraxia. I know it is hard to think that Kaylee may have another diagnosis in addition to the MDS. That is natural. It is hard enough dealing with one thing. But no matter what the outcome, you will be OK. You are obviously a great Mom...checking out all possibilities. It could also be, as Kristy mentioned, that she is working so hard on her gross motor skills(walking etc) that she is not concentrating on her speech. Regarding Autism, I really think that age 2 is too early to make such a diagnosis but I am not an expert. I know that Joint Attention is key (kids on the spectrum don't have it). They tend to be in their own world...don't notice what is going on around them and are not interested in sharing things with you...Verbal or non-verbal. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Ross Mom to 10, 6, and Kirk 4 PS> is now talking up a storm!!! Full sentences. When he was 2, he had like 2 words up and pop(sporadically) **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
, Thank you so much for the email. The information that I have been reading on Apraxia is very interesting, another mom recommended an article on this subject as well. Its great to have so many experienced moms out there - it is wonderful to be able to approach therapist and doctors with a little bit of knowledge and offer suggestions of my own. It saves so much time. It's great to hear that your son is doing so well. That is VERY encouraging news to me. Knowing that obstacles can and have been overcome helps me to move forward with confidence. Working with therapists out here has been a bit of a challenge. We are setting aside money for this (of course) but it does not come easy. Private therapy is naturally very expensive and we have found that therapy through the county is not much cheaper. Private speech therapy can run around $100.00 per session, county speech therapy is $85.00 per session, Kaylee's county OT is $45.00 per session (hey, where are all of our tax dollars going????) Our insurance does not pay for therapy of any kind so it is all out of pocket. Thanks again for your help! Guest guest
Sandy, have you applied for medicaid? My daugther got it because of her diagnosis. So far they have paid for everything. In fact in the county I live in they reimburse me mileage and when I have to pay for parking to take her to the doctors. I found out about medicaid though the state and I called the county and they told me about the paid parking and milage program. I have found many resouse available by contact various agencies such as the United Way. I was fortunate enough to have a neigbor help me out in finding things. Her son has was born with a disorder that inhibited him both physicall and mentally and she found so much help for him when he was younger and even as an adult. He is now working on his master's degree and she was able to find some programs to help him with that. Sue --- Nordgren wrote: > , > > Thank you so much for the email.
