Guest guest
Yes, get wigged out -- mold exposure can cause permanent brain damage, lung damage, immune system damage & even death. Indoor mold cannot be " cleaned. " Amatuer attempts at cleaning mold just spread it. Mold spores indoors have no natural environmental competition, so they thrive and carry mycotoxins. About 1/3 of the population cannot excrete mycotoxins and instead they permanently store them in their own fatty organs (primarily the brain). It's more damaging for kids than adults. If nobody was suffering, I would say move out at the landlord's expense while the mold is removed professionally. In your case (you suffering & child with impaired immune system), I would get out permanently. I would consider having the mold identified by a lab as you can sue the landlord if either of you suffer permanent damage. A simple way to check for damage is to check the blood flow to the optic nerve. This is compromised when people are exposed to mycotoxins. In adults, a visual test to see if you can properly discriminate between shades of black and gray is often used (they usually do this to employees of businesses that are housed in moldy buildings as they can quickly screen hundreds of employees in a few hours). For kids, an opthalmologist can sometimes image the optic nerve (depends on the equipment they have). - laura smith <iamlaurasmith@...> wrote: Me, personally, would be totally wigged! Guest guest
, I really appreciate your suggestions.... I contacted my local health department who felt this was a building issue....and sent a building inspector out.....He said my home is very humid....and that the mold appears to be just confined to the windows...He has similar issues at his own home and didn't really see the seriousness of it... My husband now thinks I'm making a bigger deal out of this. Not sure what my landlord will say as they minimized this. However, they knew that was PID, NOS....and I spoke with both the owner and the manager of the building how serious 's situation could be. I have left a message with the ID doc that saw us in Sept and have been trying to get ahold of Dr. O to see if he has any suggestions....without medical backing, I don't know how I can even push. I am afraid to start cleaning this up...to make matters worse.. I don't know if I have true symptoms or not, but I know that my eyelids are red and that happened the last time I was around mold.... is exhibiting some weird " rash or bumps " but not sure if that is related and the ID nurse didn't think that it would be related.... This is all so frustrating.... Thanks for the input....any ideas of who else to call???? I may call the County health department and then the state and see what if anything I can do.... S. Guest guest
, I would be extremly wigged out. Here's the story on Sis, I don't think you've been on here to know her story: she's now 12 years old. when she started kindergarten, she would be there Monday, part of Tuesday, the office would call saying she was not responding to her breathing treatments (she also has asthma). I'd go pick her up, take her to the pulmonary doc, steriods, breathing treatments, etc. I'd have her cleared up by Sunday, send her back on Monday. Same pattern. That was from the end of August of that year until September 19. September 19 she was admitted to the hosipital. Continuous breathing treatment, IV antibiotics, a whole caboo of stuff. They did surgery for a pic line, we did 9 weeks of IV antibiotics with that. They ran a ton of blood tests. What came back hit us all in the face. She had extremely high amounts of mold in her system. I grew up in this town, all the teachers kept tabs on how my dd was doing. When they found out about the mold, it opened up a tidal wave. The school she was attending was highly infested with mold. The teachers had complained, they were sick all the time. A lot quit. Upon talking to the principle though hit a brick wall. Everyone knew, but all of a sudden no one would admit. The school district sent an air tester in, came back fine. then someone told me they had a towel over the intake hole. So of course the tests would come back negative. We sent our own independant tester in, amazingly the rooms that had the highest contaminent were locked, and no one could find a key. there are currently six other kids as sick as Sis. No telling how many others that don't have the resources to take their kids to the doc. Sis went from 28 lbs that year to 120 lbs. She was on steriods for over six months straight. We've been dealing with the IVIG infusions for years now. So mold can devastate. I'd be afraid alright, very afraid. Guest guest
We had mold in our house and our kids were and still are sick from it 11 years later. The kind of mold you are talking about is not a major infestation but it should not be ignored. I would see if you can get someone to come clean it up. They usually use a bleach solution.to kill it . The indoor air pollution authority in WA state came out and found our mold since out kids were so sick. Look up in your govt pages for the EPA division and they will come out and find it and tell you what to do . They will take a culture and see if the mold is a problem mold . One thing is being allergic to mold another thing as someone else has said is the mycotoxins. This are sent out during the reproductive or growth cycle to beocome the dominant mold so that is when everyone has a problem with mold not just due to allergy. If you can go somewhere until this is taken care of that would be my first choice. We had no where to go so we became homeless when we found out. I had a business so we slept there at night until we found a new place and got our insurance involves. Now adays insurance companies have an exclusion to paying for it. Our house was only 13 years old and it was a flashing problem. We had it in our garage but it was next to the furnace. And there were holes in the furnace so it was getting into the house system. Our kids were very very sick. But we had growth that was about 6 inches deep and a 12ft by 12ft area. The important thing is to stay away from the windows until it is cleaned up and if it is in the windows then they need to be replaced. Sounds like you may need to find another place to live since there is high humidity in the apartment. This causes condensation and may not be able to be fixed. Guest guest
Are you wearing a mask? You should not clean mold with a mask. The only way to kill it is to use bleach. Guest guest
Yep, got an N95 from work to wear and am using a 10% bleach solution...first spraying the mold with a light mist, then putting the bleach solution on and letting it sit about 10-15 minutes, then wiping clean....taking breaks, etc... Guest guest
Great JOB. Did you find out the EPA agency? They will come out for free and give you a report if you need it. Also if you have it cultured you can find out if it is a danger to humans. BARBIE RE: Mold growth Keep us posted. Did you get the info I sent ? Guest guest
You can actually test yourself and see what you were exposed to. Certain IgE or is it IGg test's for mold against your own anti-bodys. Also start asking if there have been any previous testing of the building. They have to share it if there are medical conditions. That's how I found out anyway. Hope that helps a happyruiam <happyru@...> wrote: Would anyone have an " educated guess " at how long it would take for a mold infected wall to produce a growth of a " Solid " Black-Green-Yellow slimey area of 3ft long by 2ft high by 3-4 inch thickness? this area was found when a cabinet was pulled away from the wall. It was located in a small room about 6ft by 12 ft. And.... how would I find out what type of mold it is, if it's in a " Privately Owned Place of Buisness " that I can no longer expose my self to, and the health dept. and local authorities want no part of it, so thats not an option, nor does the Company itself, want to admit it was ever there to begin with.
