Hi Lynda,

Here is the link for all suggested doctors. There are quite a few in

Florida. I don't know which might be closest for you. I know that

will have other names for you. She's usually on here often. I

will send her a copy of this email to her personal email address and hope

that will hasten it.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/LBDcaregivers/database?method=reportRows & tb\

l=2

And here is the list of medications. I hope you find the perfect doctor.

Wishing you all the best, Norma

BAD LBD MEDICATIONS

One of the symptoms of LBD is extreme sensitivity to many medications.

NEUROLEPTICS AND OPIATES ARE LIFE THREATENING.

DO NOT GIVE:

Haldol, Clozapine, Morphine, Demerol or any other neuroleptics or opiates.

All medications ending in " azine " may cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

AVOID:

Zyprexa/olanzapine

Risperdal/risperidone

Ativan/lorazepam

Mirapex/pramipexole

Eldepryl/selegeline

Ambien/zolpidem

Ultram/tramadol

Detrol & Detropan

Benedryl (OTC allergy medication)

USE CAUTION:

Dilantin....extremely careful monitoring of levels is needed.

Sinemet/carbidopa-levodopa may cause increased dementia, stiffness, and

hallucinations.

Cough and Cold medications

This is not a complete list of medications, which may cause serious

consequences in LBD patients. Bad reactions to strong antibiotics, for

example, are not uncommon. LBD patients who have been given the least

medications, seem to do better in the long run than those who have been

more medicated.

Unfortunately, the LBD patient never goes back to the level of former

functioning when the troublesome medication is removed, and sometimes as

with neuroleptics, there may be no recovery.

LESS IS BEST ... and safest.

Hi, I haven't posted to this group, but I do normally read the posts

and have found them very helpful. I'm on a massive time crunch right

now and I don't really have time to search through all the great

stuff that has been listed at this group.

I've just moved my parents into Sun city center in Florida. It's in

Hillsborough county, about 30min south of Tampa. My Mom has Lewy

body dementia and a host of other problems.

My cry for help is for resources in this area. The doctor that I've

found for her is terrible. The senior center in this area has a one

year waiting list for help and won't give me any information of

other resources in the immediate area. I thought this area would be

great for my Mom. It's a retirement community, but so far I've found

0 for help.

If anyone knows of any Doctor resources I'd be greatful.

Also all my links are back home in MA on my computer, so anything

someone could send on the bad medicines for would be great also.

Thanks in advance, Lynda

Lynda,

I wonder if the Florida gov.org would bring you any resources? Just my first

thoughts. And there might be a very active AD organization there also that might

be able to help. Alzheimers should be available and willing to help.

Come back again, soon. and let us know what has helped.

Hugs,

Donna R

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

PS - the doctor below is also a professor at University of South

Florida. There's another specialist there too (below). So it would be a

good idea of contacting University of South Florida.

Other specialist:

Suncoast Gerontology Center, University of South Florida

G. , MD

12901 Bruce B. Down Blvd, MDC 50

Tampa, FL 33612

or

10770 N 46th St, Suite A-1200

Tampa, FL 33617
