Hi ,

I was online, so I thought I’d check this out – I googled <Flonase weight gain>, and here’s a couple I found. Can you do a search yourself? Would be better since you know your own history and other meds ...but it does look like weight gain can be one of side effects. Hope they’re of use..

Cheers, Joy

a rather technical but probably most reliable site...? (government study)

What side effects may occur?

No nasal drainage. Severe drying of sinus cavities and swelling of sinus'. Weight gain. Posterior bleeding from nose. Awful dry night cough that began 2 months into taking this medicine and still have a slight remnant of it left over 8 weeks later. This medication made me very ill. Bronchitis type symptoms with severe post nasal drip that caused a dry hacking cough every night upon laying down in bed. I went to the doctor 3x's and each time I was told it was not the Flonase, but just severe allergies. Antibiotics did not work. .... sinus were so severely dried out .. were swollen .... The ER dr told me that in rare individuals this medication CAN cause bronchitis. ... I was told to take NO Decongetants until my sinus heal. It was also recommended that I use Ocean Spray saline in my nose 8 times a day and use a vaporizer ...

I have heard others on this site recommend saline (mix salt and water in a dropper bottle) squirted up your nostril is best treatment yet... I would certainly agree, but don’t know if that works for allergic PND.

Hi ,

Yes, I seem to recall from my scanning of the material I sent, it seems that the dose has much to do w/ any side effects, including weight gain. I agree about the sites, choosing med and pt oriented ones – the med one was a bit too ‘careful’ and ‘correct’... Makes me suspicious!

Do you have google as a search engine – is an excellent search tool, gives lots results. Also Wikipedia – and key in what you want to look up... Maybe doesn’t have technical stuff, not sure.

Look for the web address the bottom, it will indicate it’s source – usually best if it’s .org or .us or .uk etc

Good luck w the spray but try salt-water squirted through an ear-dropper and ‘sniffed’, to clear blocked sinuses – is cheap, I guarantee it works for sinusitis, rhinitis, clogged, runny whatever noses! And no side affects except it’s a bit messy, I recommend doing it over your bathroom sink... Even something as ‘trivial’ as a blocked nose can be totally miserable – but also incr risk of lung infx, so is NOT trivial...

Happy breathing!

Joy, I use something called NeilMed Nasal Rinse, which is similar to

salt water and an ear dropper. It comes with a plastic bottle that

holds about a cup of water. (I use bottled purified or distilled

water.) The bottle has a large tip that is designed to press up

against your nostril. The kit comes with pre-measured packets that

dissolve into the water to become a saline solution. You can buy

additional packets as you need them.

I sit on a stool leaning over my bathroom sink and, after dissolving

the packet into the water, I inhale while squeezing the water first

into one nostril and then the other, allowing the water and whatever

it brings up to go out through my mouth or nose on exhale. After I've

used all the solution I can get out of the bottle, I usually blow my

nose to get more gook out. You're right about it being messy, but it

usually makes my breathing feel much better.

My bigest problem is just that I already have so many medical/health

things I have to do every day, I just don't have enough time to do the

sinus rinse every day. It's definitely a good thing, though.

Regarding search engines, I have Google, but I usually use something

called GoodSearch, because a cause I support gets money for every

search I do--and I search the Internnet a *lot*! It's an easy way to

raise money for a non-profit I believe in. Most of the time,

GoodSearch has been just as good as Google, but I'll have to remember

to go back to Google if I don't find what I need on GoodSearch.

Thanks.
