I hear you Carol, about school. One of my daughters is a high school

teacher, so I have heard a lot about the hectic schedules, and pace, she has to

keep. In my book teachers are terribly underpaid. We entrust our children's

brains and bodies to teachers for many hours a day. The most precious thing we

possess is our children. Teachers have a tremendous responsibility with that. I

am appalled when some parents feel as if the teacher is a glorified baby

sitter. But, I also know the good feeling a teacher can have when a student

goes

on to make something of himself, and reflects on the teacher that helped him

realize that dream. You go girl!

Do you know Cayo Costa, across the channel from Boca Grand? (by the way that

channel used to be ninety feet deep in places) Cayo Costa was a wonderful

place to spend a weekend. All of my family went there by boat, and stayed in

screened cabins or tents, and had a wonderful time. There is an old cemetery

back in the cabbage trees, that roused my curiosity. The two stones we saw had

been there a long time. I would have loved to researched the back ground of

them.

I hope things settle down quickly for you, dear Carol, and that the rest of

the year goes smoothly.

Love a whole big bunch,

Imogene

JANET,

Cute cards! Thank you!

There were some manatees up by our yard but the 4 and 5 year olds

weren't patient enough fo watch for them.

They actually scared one of them with their splashing, but they

didn't even notice.

Normally it would be too cold for the kids to swim, but with the warm

water discharge from the power plant, it is not too bad, even for the

natives here!

Besides manatees, there are islands that Imogene remembers that have

an infestation of monitor lizards. They get under homes and chew on

the electrical wiring. They can be very vicious and a danger to

small animals. Boca Grande is where they are the most prevalent, but

they do swim, so surrounding isalnds are taking a hit, also.

and Barbara Bush often vacation on Boca Grande. It is a very samll

town with a really homey feeling. Kennebunkport is actually much

more commercial than Boca Grande.

It is sunny today, and I hope Jim will put a waverunner in for me to

go see the manatees. He has launched a huge outdoor project and so

he may not be enthused about getting a boat out.

We started Millie on a new supplement- DHA. It seems to be helping.

It is supposed to help remove ALZ plaques in the brain. She actually

remembers yesterday and is talking about the walk she took around the

yard.

I essentially crashed from 3:30 yesterday afternoon until 7;00 this

a.m. except for feeding Millie dinner last night. i was just too

pooped to be up and she got herself to bed just fine. If she never

gets out of her p.j.'s, there is not much in the getting ready

process.

School starts tomorrow, and I know it will be a shock to both

teachers and kids alike. Coming back after two weeks will seem like

cruel and unusual punishment. Starting school at 7:oo a.m. is not my

idea of a great time, but at least I can stay after a bit without Jim

yelling at me.

Enough idle chit-chat! Thanks to all of you for being my link to

civilization during so much imposed imprisonment here at the house.

catch you guys later,

Carol

Imogene,

i know Cayo Costa and spent a week with a group of summer science camp kids.

I got to touch a dolphin in the wild there.

i just stood thigh deep in water and slapped the surface, and a huge wild

dolphin swam in and circled me, and headed back out to see.

Wonder what is on the web about the Cayo Costa cemetery?

keeping you connected,

Carol
