Guest guest
I don't know what Risperdal would do for hallucinations. My 14 year old is on it for bipolar disorder. Gladys -- Risperdal The doctor is weaning my Mother off Seroqual and going to put her on Risperdal, since the hallucinations are getting worse. Have heard much about Risperdal anyone else have any experience with it? Becky _____________________________________________________________________________ ______ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
There have been loved ones who can handle Risperidol - but be cautious. There are many w/ LBD who can not handle Risperidol. My mother was one of them... It's best to go by the titrating schedule recommended by Dr. Boeve. http://www.lewybodydementia.org/docs/DLB-BoeveContinuum04.pdf (Start Low, Go Slow!) > > The doctor is weaning my Mother off Seroqual and going to put her on Risperdal, since the hallucinations are getting worse. Guest guest
Are you sure Risperdal is good? That's the med my MIL was taken off of because it is bad for the parkinson's symptoms. Guest guest
- Risperidol was bad for my mother too. W/in 3 weeks she went from being self-sufficient to needing NH care... But there have been loved ones on this board who were able to handle Risperidone... So all I can say to those who may try this med. - try it w/ EXTREME CAUTION... Start at the lowest dose and watch like a hawk... > > Are you sure Risperdal is good? Guest guest
My MIL has been on it for over a year & it has really helped with the hallucinations & delusions she was having.? In fact she acts ALMOST normal. Thanks, Genise Re: Risperdal - Risperidol was bad for my mother too. W/in 3 weeks she went from being self-sufficient to needing NH care... Guest guest
It did not agree with my Mom either and I knew it right away! Her hallucinations got much worse. Guest guest
Norma - please know that although your mom & my mom did poorly on Risperidone ... some LOs can handle it and it works for them. I don't like to categorize Risperidone w/ Haldol... Haldol = NO ONE can handle -- BAD BAD BAD... Risperidone is bad for some, but not all... CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION > > > Becky, > > DO NOT GIVE YOUR MOTHER RISPERDAL. It's one of the drugs she should > definitely not have. Risperdal and Haldol are not good for LBDers. Guest guest
And I'm no doctor... but I'd guesstimate that more than HALF of LOs can NOT handle Risperidone...
Guest guest
OK, , thanks. I didn't realize that (even after all this time). Guest guest
My MIl was taking Haldol until she went into the hospital recently. Had much less side effects from that than she did every other med she tried.
