Guest guest
Sandie, looked at my diary and the second week is ok for me too as i would be back in time for all the birthdays that will be coming up, so either or for me.I can say to the doctor i need a really extra long script for diazepam now, will pretend i'm going for two weeks now!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wheeeeeeeee 2008 Gathering Hi All- It is now 2008 and time to focus on the 2008 Gathering. Part of the determining factor of when the gathering would be was around coming over from Scotland. Good news! I spoke to her this morning (her afternoon) and she said she could make it over to the U.S. the 1st week in August. She is still trying to arrange for flights and such. She will fly into Des Moines and I will pick her up. This doesn't mean the gathering has to be in Iowa. I (we, included) are happy to go where ever the gathering takes us. Even Canada! I am open to suggestions, hints, concerns, and help. The 2003 Gathering was a long weekend. Many people arrived on a Friday afternoon and stayed through Sunday late afternoon. Hoping this is doable for everyone for this years gathering. Please send out any and all thoughts to the group and together we will come up with dates, places, and such best suitable for everyone able to attend. I will keep all posts regarding the gathering. I already have a list of people wanting to attend. Any new members are more than welcome to make it as well. Hugs from Iowa- Sandie Pearce
Guest guest
lololololololol.....I really am planning on going but at the same time I need to be realistic. So far there have been two votes for the Second week of August and that weekend I wouldn't be able to go because I've got birthdays on my end. Maybe third weekend in August? Guest guest
Oh good to know. As I said I'm pretty ignorant of weather patterns in other parts of the US. I just had a few people warn me off because of humidity issues? I haven't traveled much, so it would be nice to see something other than California for a change. I have a timeshare that I haven't even used yet, except once to take the kids to Disneyland (I bought it about 6 mo's before we got my MIL) so it's been wanding through my mind that I could actually extend some time by trying to rent a condo through my timeshare company. I could use a break. Engles SEIU-UHW Shop Steward ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Meeting in Michigan is a great idea. We have quite a few members living there and I assume this means you, Courage, would be able to get closer to Donna and her car! Donna...did you get this? I think Courage is silently hinting something. If she wasn't, I am! And if all of us are in Michigan there will be a team that can go get her... those who have passports which I know of atleast 3 that will have them. Run Courage, Run!! Sandie -- Re: Re: - 2008 Gathering HI Donna, Reading this post reminded me that I'd better get cracking on getting my passport updated. How about if we meet in Michigan? Courage Re: - 2008 Gathering thanks. It does sound like fun to get away for a weekend and get to know my online buddies. Personally, I would REALLY like to keep the gathering within the US because it would save me from having to obtain a passport. I think that would be a dealbreaker. Let me know which weekend you all decide on! lisa Engles SEIU-UHW Shop Steward __________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi All- I appreciate all the ideas floating around. We have had some very good ones indeed. First I would like to focus on dates of the gathering before getting into where it should be held. I think it's important to get the date narrowed down and decided on so everyone can get it on their calendars and arrange for time off, help with loved ones, whatever the case may be. Please cast your votes in the poll at the LBD site and majority will rule. Thank you- Sandie Des Moines, IA dad, Merle, passed away from LBD 9-20-02, age 65 mum, Jo, (MIL) passed away from LBD 4-29-07, age
Guest guest
Courage, I think it depends on what people want to do. If its going to be about seminars and such than it probably doesn't matter (any hotel with a conference room would do) but if it'll be more about getting together and all trying to relax and do fun things than there are several options. Sault St. Marie is in the UP but is close enough for a day trip to Mackinaw City/Island. And there are the Sault locks to see and several shipping museums in SSM itself (there may be more things but its been a while since I've been there). Traverse City is also very nice in the summertime and is home to the Michigan Cherry festival (although I think thats in July). All those are close enough for a trip to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes too I think. Although thats not a trip for those that don't want to get active. Its an hour-ish hike up and down the dunes to get to the water but the whole thing is SOOO beautiful!! I'm also pretty sure there are several retreat lodge type places out in the lovely forests that could be looked into too. For relaxation and hiking in the scenery and such. There is a United Methodist camp called Lake Louise (I think) that MIGHT have openings for such things. I used to work summers at a kids camp on the same lake when I was in college. its one of my favorite places on earth! ;-) And I'm sure I could come up with lots of other ideas just by talking to family and friends if you wanted me too! " Up North " is a big topic here!
