For their propaganda, go to: http://www.racalrecord.com/public_safety/recording/mirra.html It's all digital, records by laser onto DVD media; is accessible by a computer with a sound card, CAD terminal (w/ sound card added), or the dept intra-net (not necessarily a good thing since the sergeants discovered that they can call up the recorder and hear each call as it comes in/goes out on the PC in the sergeant's office... while they play Tetris on the PC and watch the Redskins game). It's an amazing little box (size of a VCR) that puts Dictaphone to shame. For a small shop, it can even be your 'instant recall' recorder if you have a PC w/ a sound card and Windows 95/98/2K/ME so you can leave the icon on the screen. Tell it to search and play the last X number of seconds (we have it set on 8) and it plays instantly. Falls Church used the Mirra thru 3 versions, the original w/ DAT cartriges, series 1 with CD-RW, and now we've settled on the latest DVD. I can't verify but was told that the Racal Mirra is now being sold 'cheap' to try to make inroads into the public safety recording sector that has been dominated by Dictaphone and Lanier. Your staff will have to contact the company to verify and determine actual, current costs. Good luck. It's always nice getting new toys. 50's not old if you're a...
