Guest guest
Kay,Re yoghurt – from what I understand that to replace flora damaged by abx, you’d need to eat bucket loads – and that does change things a bit...However, if it works for you, for as long as it works – do it!joy With all due respect, yogurt is a good source of calcium as well as a healthy gut..but Joy's right..considering the frequency and strength of our abx , it's just not enough..not to protect us sickies.. I eat yogurt cause I like it..cause it's one of the only sources of calcium I have in my diet and a little extra boost is good..but I take my Acidiphillus whenever I'm on abx treatment. Guest guest
Sandie,Why can’t you take osteo meds? There are different kinds – I don’t know very much. I suffer from acid reflux and Gerd..and if you have these disorders it's not recommended you take the osteo meds..I'm at a loss Sandie Never Look Down on SomeoneUnless You're Willing to Help Them UpWho's never won? Thanks Sandie Never Look Down on SomeoneUnless You're Willing to Help Them UpWho's never won? Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Guest guest
Hi Sandie,..., Re yoghurt and calcium ... And osteoporosis... I discovered I had osteoporosis after a spine fracture in 06. And I’ve always been super-conscious of calcium foods, because not able to use dairy much, which is why I persisted so long w yoghurt despite the unpleasant side-effects (which eventually got too much, and not enough result for the discomfort etc). My blood results and natural therapists have told me I don’t absorb calcium, don’t absorb most nutrients well, incl protein. Blood tests have shown that I have adequate calcium – but doesn’t get into bone material ...? Wish I hadn’t spent so much of my school yrs in hospital, and had some realisation of it’s personal importance - I should have learnt something of basic phys/chem. We have to learn our own variation of this ‘thing’ and adapt to it, find out what we can and go with it. Eventually that may – probably will – change, and have to find another solution. That is what the bacteria and fungi and viruses that give us a hard time are doing non-stop for their own survival. Main diff is that they don’t have go and find a job for a living or bring up a family! Good to have your insights joy
Guest guest
Sandie, Why can’t you take osteo meds? There are different kinds – I don’t know very much. It took about 2 months to confirm I’d had a fracture (my mum is 86, no osteoporosis - this was a shock) then more time b4 finding out what meds needed / available /cost etc. I’d been needing urgent dental work for years, and treatment coincided w the fracture (T8 – gets a workout every cough), and thus found out that removal of teeth that osteo med I was on was implicated in jaw-bone necrosis. Luckily I’d only been on the med for a couple of months (1x wkly dose), so figured if I stopped, by the time several teeth were to be removed it would be 10 months – hopefully enough not to be affected by the medication... I hope. Still hoping xxxx fingers etc. There is another med – Strontium (it has some connotations I’m not comfortable with eg nuclear products, silly I know, it’s just a name...) that allegedly does not have the jaw-bone necrosis implications. This information is to the best of my knowledge and if there are errors in my information the fault is mine. Blessing to all joy
Guest guest
Sandie, The med for osteo, main constituent bisphosphonate (not sure of spelling) is hard on gut, you have to remain upright for at least 30 mins. But there is the other one, Strontium. (remind me in next email, it’s 2pm, don’t want to put on full lights...) And it’s time I tucked in for the night... joy
Guest guest
Hi Sandie, I have it sitting there waiting for me to start... Have been having a bit of ‘head’ problem w meds, just had had enough... Have heard the strontium is best to take at night (even if says morning) because it can make you feel queasy. Is all I know so far, Anyone else? joy
