Guest guest
Oh yeah, and not busy with a pattern, but a solid color to off set the toilet, so it can be seen. If anyone has noticed that their LO can not find their food on a plate and stab the fork everywhere around the plate and off the plate, but where the food is, it's the same visuospatial thing going on and a white plate on a solid colored placemat helps. help me, have you heard of this and am I telling it right? I know it is the same effect as finding the toilet. This has come up several times through the years too. Ok, enough said on this subject for me. I will stop thinking about this now. LOL, I tried to change the seat cover, someone had mentioned that too me, but Jim wouldn't lift the seat up and peed on the seat cover, so that didn't work for him. Sheeeesh! The rug around the toilet helped to change it for him to see the difference and find the toilet, but yeah the seat cover solid color to off set it from the toilet was mentioned too. wrote: Here it is: http://www.lewybodydementia.org/docs/LBDAbroch_webLGL.pdf PS -- I've read that's why people change toilet seat colors, etc. If the floor is white and the toilet is white - the LO is not going to see it. But if the seat is changed to a bright color, they will. Also w/ the tub - if you put a colorful mat on the bottom of the tub it doesn't look like an endless pit to them... PS - just read what you wrote Janet... LOL same thing but a vica versa.... > Carol, I forgot to mention, because of the lack of spatial awareness I fogot to mention that sometimes the dark rug seems to look like an open space to drop into and they are afraid to step in that space. Too dark could be a problem, get a solid color that off sets it from the toilet. Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
Guest guest
Carol, I do feel a little more gathered these last few days, thanks! I still feel the same as far as what I should be doing with MY life but I feel less desperate about it. I have set myself a deadline for making my feelings known and have decided to do it in a meeting with my mom AND my uncles together instead of trying to talk to my mom alone. My uncles are very mellow and laid back so I am hoping they can be the buffer that keeps my mom from instantly going loony on me. Grandma has had those sudden declines at times too. She went from kinda having a hard time finding the right word to talking constant gibberish in about 2 days. Always check UTI first but sometimes it is just a progression of the LBD that we have to learn to live with. I'm glad you found someone to stay with her so you won't have to worry while you can't be there. Guest guest
Yes - it's the same w/ the plates - that's why the NH had my mom eat from a bright yellow plate w/ a lip.... similar to this: http://www.caregiverproducts.com/site/270651/product/CMI108 > > Oh yeah, and not busy with a pattern, but a solid color to off set the toilet, so it can be seen. > If anyone has noticed that their LO can not find their food on a plate and stab the fork everywhere around the plate and off the plate, but where the food is, it's the same visuospatial thing going on and a white plate on a solid colored placemat helps. help me, have you heard of this and am I telling it right? Guest guest
There is a dark rug between the sink and the toilet, so I guess I have to go shopping. I will get a set with the toilet rug so that there will be more contrast. We have started her on antibiotics for a suspected UTI. Can't see taking her into the emergency room for thousands of dollars of tests, because they never just examine the pee. Of course it is too late to get her into the dr. office. We do have the test strips, so we can test it ourselves. Trying to keep Millie in a small curtained area is crazy. All of the sudden today I had to chop up Millie's food. She is in and out of her bed. She has asked for water many times today, so that is good. We are upping the hours of care because she has gotten so much more helpless in the past few days. The manatees should be up our river with the cold snap we just had, but I doubt I can leave Millie long enough to go play. Monday morning is going to be hard. I had such high hopes for getting a lot done these last two weeks. Thanks for listening! carol > > > Carol, I forgot to mention, because of the lack of spatial > > awareness I fogot to mention that sometimes the dark rug seems to > > look like an open space to drop into and they are afraid to step in > > that space.
