Guest guest
Hi Nyzki, Re expectorants – they’re pretty awful tasting usually, but if having trouble clearing gunk, use one you can tolerate. As for cough suppressants absolutely NO NO NO!! If you’re exhausted from coughing, sore muscles, cough spasms, etc valium is far better – just be sure never to use more than 4 nights in succession, and allow a break b4 using again. Mostly I find 1-2 nights at 5mg is enough. Your tummy upset could be from Ibuprofin – very hard on digestive system. Are there really no other general doctors you can see? In Aust we see our doctor for general management, and specialist if more serious, complications, need hospital admission etc. Re “open” scrips - once the pathogen is established and other info, it is ok to have a 7-day course scrip on hand (better to start b4 infx too severe, requiring longer medication and incr cost) & have frequent checks for resistance... I have been caught out over the long holiday breaks too. Maybe when your doc knows you better he will be confident to allow you at least a single-course scrip (I don’t know of any open-ended scrips...) Hope you’re feeling much better by the time you get this... wish none of us had to go through that awful infx phase – I wonder if one dr in this world knows what it is like? Wishing you all the best, joy
