OT a little: cleaning carpeted steps

A little off topic perhaps but since we all have to keep our homes

cleaner than ordinary, has anyone found a tool/vaccum that does steps

well and can be handled by a very TIRED all-the-time person?

My vacuum is too heavy to carry the steps and using the wand, it looses

so much suction that it doesn't pick up anything but lightweight, big

stuff.

I probably will end up pulling carpet off the steps but peeking under

the carpet I see some of the steps are painted, so it will look like

you-know-what until I spend the money to have the paint removed.
