Greetings: This was on another list I am on as well as a commentary on the proposed changes to the DSM 5. The author offered a different perspective of looking beyond what the changes of criteria might mean for families and those with and looking more at the real issues like how we diagnosis and the training the professionals have along with the inequality for families to access resources based on social economic status and geographic locations which is pretty standard for almost anything. Enjoy. Coming in March 2012Loving Someone with Asperger's Syndrome:Understanding and Connecting with Your Partner N. Ariel, PhD People with Asperger's syndrome and similar autism spectrum disorders can possess average to above-average intelligence, but may seem cold, aloof, or difficult to understand. To make matters even more confusing, many of them are undiagnosed. While people with Asperger's tend to be very loyal and reliable in their relationships, the romantic partners of people with Asperger's syndrome may struggle with feelings of rejection or loneliness, feel starved of physical affection, or suffer from social embarrassment as a result of their partners' symptoms. Loving Someone with Asperger's Syndrome (March 2012) presents practical guidance that will help partners get what they need in their relationships by working together with their Asperger's partner. Loving Someone with Asperger's Syndromeincludes exercises for both the reader and the partner with Asperger's and anecdotes from the author's own experiences in clinical practice. This realistic, yet hopeful guide shows readers how they can express anger effectively and productively, help their family and friends understand their partner with Asperger's, and keep from being embarrassed by their partner in social situations.
