Strangely a couple years ago if I ate a atkins bar or a shke mix, it would set my cravings for carbs off big time, but now they don't. Also tried a new high protein bar, biochem ultimate lo carb 2, 3 carbs per bar. It really is only 3 carbs, didn't set off any cravings either, bg never went up at all, really good, I got the chocolate smores supreme, yummy!! carol
Guest guest
Sharon, I drink a Keto Shake (protein powder drink) sometimes when I'm in a hurry. It makes my BG go up some - but not radically - but it usually comes down within a few hours. I don't dose insulin for this. Barb is absolutely right -- everyone's body is different and yours may react quite differently to the same food than mine does. There are some lances that don't hardly hurt at all. Try the kind that has a dial - they go from 1 to about 6 with 1 the lightest poke. That's what I use and I can barely feel it. I got it at Walgreen's. You'll never get good control unless you test your BG. And if you don't test your BGs you're sure to get complications which are gonna hurt a lot more than a little finger prick. Yes I am coward > hear me roar! ****The trouble is, Sharon, that everyone's body is different, and you can't judge yours by what something does to someone else's. Hit me if you must, but you've got to test yourself, or you won't learn how your body works. It's just a little prick, and you do get used to it. >>

Get yourself a Bayer " Vaculance " and you can stick yourself in many new places - but never in your fingers! You will never look back. I occasionally check out new meals, measuring my BG every 10-15 minutes for 3-4 hours and hardly feel a thing.
Guest guest
I bought us Atkins' chocolate and vanilla shake mixes from Low-Carb Connoisseur, but oddly, we've never opened them. The label claims 3 grams of carbs (serving size = 2 scoops, or 43 grams) along with a note: " You may subtract most of the dietary fiber from your carb count, as most of this fiber is insoluble, and thus not absorbed by the body. Net Atkins Carb Count = approx. 1 gram. " Susie Sharon wrote: << These seem to be very popular on the lc list. Guest guest
Well barbara it is generally agreed that potatoes are bad for diabetics so I dont know why you cant say some foods generally do raise your insulin levels . Many of us already avoid high glycemic foods should we alll poke our fingers after eating potatoes not me I will just avoid them. sharon Re: Protein Powders > These seem to be very popular on the lc list. Guest guest
Thank you so much Carol that is what I wanted to hear I am finding my shakes setting it off my cravings too and even though 1.5 carbs per scoop I dont necessarily believe every company's dietary log especially as I was craving soo much. Your info reassured me which is what I wanted! Thanks again. sharon Re: Protein Powders In a message dated 10/11/2000 5:31:02 PM Eastern Daylight Time, ottercritter@... writes: << I bought us Atkins' chocolate and vanilla shake mixes from Low-Carb >> I did too,the choc is great, I add splenda though, sometimes even mixed the van and choc together, also at times add heavy cream, it is very filling, and did not raise my bg Really great as a meal, or even a snack when your cravings strike.
