I use a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of

vinegar and allow to set over night before running

water. It bubbles debris out. It is safe on the pipes

and will safely clear any clogs.

Sue,

The chemistry of chlorine dioxide and the medical uses of it are two

entirely different topics. The closest information I could find with

a brief search was for a product called Durafresh mouthwash. What

troubled me is their claim it is " US EPA registered and recommended. "

EPA doesn't recommend anything. Those who have paid the huge amounts

of money for a successful registration would surely know that.

They would also know the EPA has no authority with anything used in

or on the human body. That would be the FDA. Which leaves me

wondering about the accuracy of their other statements.

As for the kitchen drain, the reason the odor keeps returning is the

grease and " gunk " accumulated in the trap. Until that is removed any

chemical treatment will only affect the top surface for a short time,

leaving the think layer unaffected. Physical removal of the " gunk "

from the trap, and the pipe down to it, is needed, perhaps even

replacing the trap.
