Hello Barb and Welcome,

I have read of Arachnoiditis but not been diagnosed with it. What does your Doc

say about it? How is he going to treat it? Did he give you anything at all for

your pain? I am sorry that I can not be of more help, but I just wanted to

welcome you. Take care,

Millie

Barb, I was diagnosed with arachnoiditis 30 yrs ago after injuring my spine

lifting a patient and having laminectomies of L4-L5 and L5-S1 where " too much

bone was removed " leaving me with an unstable spine. I was subsequently fused

anteriorly from L2-S1. I have been on pain meds for the arachnoiditis as well as

gabapentin. Hope that helps. Best of luck, Kate

Arachnoiditis

Has anyone ever been diagnosed with this? I was really hoping for a herniated

disc since I have four bulging discs in my lumbar area, but my neuro says that I

have Arachnoiditis.

If anyone has this, what medications are you on to try to control it?

Thanks,

Barb

Hi Millie,

No need to welcome me, I've been on this group for quite some time, but lurk a

lot. haha I have been on pain medication for over 3 years, probably longer,

since my first tethered cord surgery in 2006. Now having been diagnosed with

this I just have to keep changing things around (medication) until we can figure

out what works best for me. My doctor didn't really say a lot other than what it

does as far as making the nerves stick together and that is where the pain is

coming from, etc. Oh well, just something else to adjust to.

Thanks again for the response.

Hi Kathy and Barb, Just looked up the site and it is .org. or COFWA.org. Thanks

for the info. Best, Kate

Re: Arachnoiditis

Thanks Kathy,

I have already started reading and joined that group yesterday. I may have had

it for awhile, but the neuro has just diagnosed with me it since my lasg surgery

back in June. My first tethered cord surgery back n June 2006 the neurosurgeon

told me that I had nerves that were stuck together, but they thought it was from

my original spina bifida, but apparently it is this disease instead and my

nerves are continuing to adhere to each other. I guess I will just have to keep

trying to get the right combo of medication that works for me and learn to live

with it.

Thanks for your response

people. Check it out. Go to www.cofwa.com (circle of friends with

arachnoiditis). These people are great and very credible!! I read all the

group mails everyday.

I have a question...Does Arachnoiditis only affect the spine? This caught my eye

and sounds similar as to what is happening with my wrist...long story! Thanks in

advance! I never post but read the wealth of info here and has helped me much!

Hi Tammy,

Arachnoiditis is an inflammation of some of the tissue around the spine (and

brain). This creates scar tissue which in turn causes the nerves to bunch up

and become stuck together. It can be felt as burning and sharpe shooting in

your arms and hands but more often that kind of pain is expressed in the

legs, and lower back. Pain in your wrist can be attributable to some

cervical, neck, problems.

Peace,

Di
