Guest guest
here is a little info I have found about a fairly new device, being implanted in people with intractable seizures. To my knowledge it is now being used here in the US. The non invasive unit that measures intracranial pressure, that we had links to a page about in the past, unfortunately, is not approved by the FDA, by the way. : ( Are you familiar with this device? NeuroCybernetic Prosthesis (NCP), made by , Cyberonics delivers Vagus Nerve Stimulation, which research has proven alters or modulates blood flow in areas of the brain where seizures are known to start or spread. For patients unable to control their seizure disorders with drugs or surgery. It has been proven to decrease, or even eliminate seizures. It sends precisely timed and measured electrical pulses to the vagus nerve. It has a sensor that detects a seizure before it becomes pronounced, and then sends the impulse, to the nerve. They call it a " pacemaker for the brain " . It is roughly the size of a pocket watch, and is implanted in the chest. I was just curious, as I have not seen it on the web yet, and that is usually the first place I find some things. And it sounds wonderful. says she would love to be a test subject.
