Guest guest
Computers offgas for years substances called PBDEs as well as lead dust. I found my worst reactions when my total body was at its highest from a recent exposure. If you are in the beginning process of destressing your detox pathways --you can and probably will react. I had to order a new bed because I started reacting to the flame retardents in my old bed directly after another exposure. Now I have an organic one that does not cause the problem. My breathing problem and lightheadedness were the same for the bed, the computer, etc...By the way, a huge amount of the lead that is leaching out of waste landills are from thrown away computers and their components. TVs also have PBDEs for reference. Many other items that do this also may be in your home...they will ofgas more if they are heated. I have been detoxing for several months now and my symptoms (except some of the brain fog) is greatly reduced even though they will never be gone entirely. I have completely detoxed my home of any of the items that may offgas. http://www.blueegg.com/hot_topics/2007/7/28/healthy-home-primer- mcdowell/print.go > > Hi Folks: I am always amazed at how all the members here seem to spend > alot of time at the computer as there are many messages lately and the > forum is very busy.I really have to limit myself to the computer as it > has a profound affect on the way I feel. Guest guest
Hi Diane, Based on my past personal experience, your problem may have an easy and inexpensive solution. A number of years ago, I had the same symptoms, at a time that I had just " bonded " with my computer, and it had become my " best friend " . I lived without a computer for about a year, during which time, I bought, and returned, a number of computers and electronic adaptors which could turn my T.V. set into a computer. My enlightenment began when I noticed that much of this new electronic equipment started making me sick, at the very moment that I slid it out of it's carton, before I even had a chance to plug it in. I started asking myself the question: " What could all this equipment have in common, that would make me sick? " They could not ALL have picked up mold during, or after, the manufacturing process. What all the equipment had in common, was that they were all NEW! I had been experiencing a " multiple chemical sensitivity " (MCS) to the chemicals used in the manufacturing of the computers and their monitors. What small amount of information I could find, online, only mentioned a study, in Scandinavia, showing a chemical sensitivity to Monitors. O.K.-So nothing NEW. And nothing with a monitor. ANSWER: An OLD laptop. The older-the better. Luckily, I had a friend, who worked in a financial institution, which was constantly upgrading it's computer equipment, and THROWING AWAY it's old computers. Old computers have NO resale value-Lucky for me-and lucky for YOU! I am happy to announce that the bonding between myself and my OLD laptops has long outlasted the much earlier bonding between myself and my YOUNG ex-wife. My suggestion, to you, (don't laugh) is that you walk into your local bank and ask them if they have any OLD laptops in storage, that they no longer use; and could they please give you one FOR FREE. You may have to endure some laughter, but you will eventually hit on a bank that will say " why not? " after their laughter stops. Should you live in a " hard-hearted " town with no FREE laptops, make the same proposition to your local computer repair shop. They might take a few bucks for an old, but functional, laptop. Remember, the OLDER the BETTER, even if the shop guy offers you a newer laptop, for the same price. Remember, I'm NOT talking about an old MODEL, still in it's original carton. I'm talking about a computer that has " been used to death " , by a former owner. A last resort, would be to attend a " liquidation auction " for a " going out of business " auctioneer. Make sure you test the laptop, first, before you bid on it. There will probably be no other bidders, since anyone who is not " CRAZY', like us, always wants new, " state of the art " computers. Sometimes, the answer to our suffering is NOT mold. P.S.- I just had to return a NEW T.V. for the same reason. A few years ago I had to return a NEW DVD player. How easy it is, to forget that we will always have the potential of being made sick, by the things that make other people happy. May you and your OLD laptop have many happy years together. .................................................................................\ ............................................. Guest guest
We could not remove our desktop computer from our moldy home until we had someone take it apart and clean it. There is a cooling fan which " sucks " in air. Ok, I might not know the technical terms, but the fellow who cleaned it found lots of " dust " inside. We were told we could take our laptops with us as they are so small that very few spores get inside. Still, we did HEPA vacuum them to the best of our ability. Hope this helps. - Hi Folks: I am always amazed at how all the members here seem to spend alot of time at the computer as there are many messages lately and the forum is very busy.I really have to limit myself to the computer as it has a profound affect on the way I feel. Guest guest
I would imagine that you could just open up the case outside, blow out the dust and then let the sunshine do its work. Guest guest
Its not that simple. Even high tech methods like using an air compressor and soaking PC boards in solvents with agitation was not successful for me. Something in there, which may be infinitesimably small, makes me sick. My situation is probably worst than most.
