Guest guest
Well, grandma ate a blueberry pancake this morning and didn't argue with me about taking a shower (FINALLY!)! I just didn't give her much choice about either. I just came in and said, " Happy New Year! We're having pancakes for breakfast to celebrate. And then we'll take a shower when you're done eating. " No choice and no fussing, she just did it. I'm sure that'll be the last time for a week we'll get her to do anything without a fight but it was nice for a little change. We're pretty much snowed in for the day. We got about 8 inches of snow last night. My boyfriend is outside shoveling in an attempt to get the car out but I have a feeling that will only mean it'll be stuck in our long driveway later. Oh well, that should be funny if he gets it that far! Guest guest
Mark the shower on the calendar. It may be the last for a while. Millie will only take baths, and I think she fell getting in the tub, but I didn't hear her. I told Jim about her bruise, and he understands, and now we are searching for bathrails, etc. A shower chair does us no good because she likes to soak. I think she was probably knocked out by her fall, and that the little blue pill had nothing to do with the fall(she must have fallen less than 2 mins after taking it.) It kept her rested after, for sure. Not a good thing if she had a concussion. She called me from the tub, and I went, but she may have fallen several minutes earlier while I was putting out the dogs. We will never know, and I suppose the reason I had to lift her into her bed was that she was knocked silly by the fall. It was like working with a drunk. I am looking at having some junior baby foods on hand for when Millie won't put her teeth in, but is hungry. I am afraid she will think the beefaroni and spaghetti will be too spicy. There is no point in having big cans on hand as she eats the 3 bite minimum and then wants pudding or ice cream. How does the group feel about lift chairs? Millie can still get in and out, but it is getting harder, and harder. What one piece of special equipment does anyone have that you would not be without with your LBD LO? If we're going to keep her at home, we may as well set her up as best we can. I wish she would sleep in her recliner, but apparently, that is not allowed. My hospiced aunt slept in hers, and actually passed away in the chair. I am sure it made breathing easier and her legs were supported. She would not sleep in the hospital bed, and resented the fact that it was in her living room. Bedsores on her feet kept her chairbound. Keep the food log up-to-date for us. Gatorade has now turned sour to Millie, so we may have to switch to pedialyte. $$$$! Guest guest
I would be interested in what equipment others have as well. We only have a wheelchair and hospital bed. Of course, there's the bedside commode and shower chair, but nothing electrical. I would love to have some of the equipment they have in the hospital. Now that my MIL is basically bedbound, even a slip sheet would come in handy. I am still trying to get incontinence supplies approved, so anything more than that might be a stretch. As for the baby food, Carol, We just would take whatever we were having and put it in a food processor. I have a small countertop one that is always out. Our big breakthrough recently was my MIL eating real food (not ground up) on Sunday. Waffles, ham and eggs. Hope these antibiotics keep moving her in the right direction. Maybe we'll get her out of that bed after all! lisa Engles SEIU-UHW Shop Steward ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
, I think you have everything. The one thing I would suggest--if you don't already have it--is an air mattress (electric) if she is bedbound. I'll bet you already have it. lisa engles <mizzzlizayahoo (DOT) com> To Sent by: LBDcaregivers LBDcaregivers@yah cc oogroups.com Subject Re:2008 and Millie 01/02/2008 01:16 is awake!
