Guest guest
Funeral Services for Fire Chief & Acadian Paramedic, W. Knight Our brother was laid to rest in a very touching ceremony, with A lone bagpiper, Jeff Courts, an officer of the Port Arthur Texas Police Department, played several times during Knight's ceremony. Hundreds of firefighters, paramedics and Law Enforcement officers said farewell to a fallen comrade Sunday. They came from across Louisiana, Texas, even Alabama and Virginia, to pay their last respects to W. Knight, 32, of DeRidder. Besides the hundreds of colleagues that attended the funeral, Knight's family, friends and concerned citizens filled DeRidder's First Baptist Church to capacity, leaving standing room only. The persuasion stretched over two miles with over 100 Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement vehicles leading the flag draped Hero in the back of the DeRidder Fire Department's 1959 American LaFrance Fire Truck, north on Highway 171 which the community lined. An Acadian helicopter circled above, as to his final resting place, the Providence Cemetery, east of Rosepine, Louisiana. At the grave site, taps' played, followed by a fly over by Acadian Ambulance AirMed 5 and the sounding of the Last Alarm. For those who had to protect and serve and were unable to attend, there are photo's on the Acadian Ambulance and AirMed Services web site.
