Hmmm... thanks CJ.. in my case neither of those, but I did find it informative and let's say " educational " . I suppose it was deliberately designed to exaggerate autie traits, and some people might say that exaggeration took it to the point of ridicule, thereby making it funny. For me, no though, because I found myself actually sympathising with the outlandish questions and almost agreeing that they were logical and reasonable. > Would your answer depend on whether the actor was actually autistic in > real life? No it wouldn't. Whether he's really autistic or just a good actor doesn't detract from it being a usefully clear informative illustration of what autism is all about. IMHO, neither funny nor offensive really come into it. > Moreover, if the actor is an autie, would it offend you that he chose to > portray his autism in a humorous way for the purpose of entertainment > aimed at a mainstream market? No, even if NTs just laugh at it, I believe it still leaves a useful impression behind of the traits that can combine to constitute autism. Therefore I see it as a useful educational tool. I can't really imagine what purpose would be served by being offended by it. > Enjoy (or not) I did enjoy it. Thanks!
Guest guest
Well... I wasn't so much offended as I was "bored" after watching about thirty seconds of the clip. If it's meant to "educate," one really wonders what's being "learned," and what's the point of the clip in the first place. It lost it's "funny to me" about ten seconds before I turned it off. Just my reaction. N. Meyer Re: Humorous, or offensive? > > > >> The humor magazine "The Onion" has a series of popular videos featuring >> a caricature of an autistic reporter.
