Guest guest
Eileen, I was on tobramycin for about three years and Tobi for the last two years of the five years that I was on these drugs. I became resistant to Tobi for a year and was switched to Polymyxin B which I am still on. The last time I was in the hospital (last spring) I was told that I was sensitive to it again, but my pulmonary doctor is reserving it for when I am in the hospital with pneumonia. When I was on Tobi, I got it through a patient assistance program and did not pay anything for it. Of course that was several years ago. I am also on Medicare and was told that Medicare would pay for it. I am assuming that they mean 80%. I have a supplemental plan that would most likely pay the 20% remaining. Did you check online with Tobi to see if you would qualify for patient assistance? Good Luck, Norma in TX Subject: Tobi and Duo NebsTo: bronchiectasis Date: Thursday, November 13, 2008, 6:40 PM Hi All, In March I will be eligible for Medicare and can't find a drug program that covers these two meds. I'm hoping that perhaps someone in the US may know of a Drug Supplement Insurer that will cover these two very expensive meds. If not, I will not be able to afford them, especially the Tobi. Costco quoted me over $3800.00 for a 1 month supply. Medicare only pays for 80%. It's just outrageous. Thank you in advance for your help. Guest guest
I went to an infusion center daily for a month to receive meds thru a pic-line installed in my arm. and Medicare paid. If it was at my home, Medicare would not pay, however, united health care would pick it up. joan From: bronchiectasis [mailto:bronchiectasis ] On Behalf Of Norma Henry Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 11:02 PM To: bronchiectasis Subject: Re: Tobi and Duo Nebs Eileen, I was on tobramycin for about three years and Tobi for the last two years of the five years that I was on these drugs. Guest guest
Hi Eileen, I used 2x 40ml per day. The concentration in the IV syrup is less than the ampule of TOBI, which accounts for the different amounts used. If you go with FoundCare, they will compound 4ml of tobi for you for use with their eFlow nebulizer (takes about 10 minutes), plus you will get free hypertonic saline.
