I totally agree! I try to eat healthy and avoid as much junk as I can and

avoid bad places. I started taking the flavored CSM in a can then switched to

the packets without any problems. I was very sick 4 yrs. ago and don't know

what I would do without it. I don't think we can totally get away from

artificial stuff in our world. I just do the best I can, taking my CSM and

feeling

much much better.

Sue

Diane,

Personally, I have always taken the stuff in the packets with the

artificial flavor and aspartame, and I tell you, its been a godsend.

If I am getting those toxins out of my system, I am not going to split

hairs over some artificial flavor or color.. Do you know how much of

that stuff we get in our food? Its virtually unavoidable.t

CSM. I told him I did not want the one with aspartane but sugar was ok.

this what all of you are taking?

I was taking the CSM in packets but another mold victim told me about

CSM from a compounding pharmacy in Massachusetts so now I am taking

the compounded version without all the " extras " Contact Hopkinton

Drug, Inc.,@ 508 425 4441 for more information. NFI

From everything I've read about mold and sugars, sugars are not really

okay for those with mold/fungal issues. Sugar feeds the mold/fungus

right? Aren't we trying to get the mold OUT? Personally I avoid sugar

and products with sugar.

LOL. That was my reaction too. I've been trying so hard to avoid

unnecessary chemicals and all the artificial stuff to help my body to

detox and it looked so unhealthy, but I got awful swollen and burning

rashes on my wrists with exposure and before I got the CSM they lasted

a very long time but when I used the CSM at first sign, rash went away,

so I took it orange-color and sweetner and all, but would prefer the

plain product.

The yellow dye in it is an allergen to some too. I understand why

commercial food companies sugar-fy and brightly color their foods but I

don't understand why a pharmacy feels the need.

Maybe next time your doctor can get the compounded product for you.

I'm with you...I don't do artificial colorings or sweetener. I get mine

compounded with no sweetener/flavorings at all. There is a pharmacy in

CA that does it quite a bit cheaper than any other pharmacy I've

checked. V

Could you share the name of that pharmacy? I am allergic to aspartame

and would like to cut my sugar/sucrose intake.

In what do you mix the compounded CSM? Although I was puzzled when

everyone said the regular rx is orange flavored (because I don't

really detect a flavor), I checked the insert and it is! I'm thinking

it might be very nasty in plain water if it isn't flavored.

Another girl from a lyme forum mentioned this pharmacy that she used

for compounded CSM. Dollar Drug-1055 West College Ave., Santa ,

CA 95401, 707-575-1313, 800-728-3173 for cholestyramine 480 grams.

They use stevia if you want that, but I get it with no sweatener at

all and it's not that bad. I mix it with water and a little lemon

juice. To me it tastes a lot better than any artificial sweatner,

which I can't stand. I am not taking it now, but when I did I was

taking 4 grams twice daily or 8 grams daily, or 240 grams a month.

Thus a 480 gram canister would last me about 2 months. It was about

$106.00 plus $1.50 shipping, and my insurance covered about 1/3 of it

as it was considered a 3rd tier drug. Any other pharmacy I contacted

wanted a lot more, in fact tuns more. Evidently there is a lyme

doctor near there, and they sell quite a bit of it and get a good

deal from the supplier. At least that's what the pharmacist told me.

Mine was mixed with just cellulose as a binder and that was it. I

didn't like taking the regular prescription of CSM as it has aluminum

in it. Why on earth they have to put that in there I'll never

understand, but it's in there folks....D & C Yellow #10 aluminum lake,

and FD & C Yellow #6 aluminim lake. Besides that it has propylene

glycol, sorbitol, sucrose, natural and artifical orange flavor.

Any more questions...feel free to ask. V

i thought that about mold & sugars as well. when i ran it by Dr

Shoemaker (back in 2004) and inquired if i should continue limiting my

sugar intake, he acted as if sugar wouldn't really exacerbate my mold

issues. i've been through at least half a dozen no-sugar/low-carb

diets during the past several years. i've never really been a soda

drinker & water is my drink of choice.

once u detox like i have (seeing is believing), occasionally having

sugar isn't a big concern.

I've been taking CSM since Dec. 2003 and never had any diet restrictions. I

do however watch what I eat and I don't drink alcohol of any kind. I don't eat

many sweets or bread. Mainly I stick to veggies, meats and if I eat bread

it's usually wraps or natural breads.Breakfast is cheerios, flaxseed,

blueberries or bananas wiith soy milk,. I stick to water, decaf tea and an

occasional diet coke.

I once ordered the compounded CSM, then let it sit in the plastic container

and when I finally opened it, it smelled fishy and I couldn't use it.

I use the packets (the ones sweetened with sucrose, not aspartame). I have

to take it in food; if I put it in water and drink it, it burns my throat. It's

pretty tasty with a little baby food, like organic sweet potatoes!

Has anyone had trouble with compounded CSM going bad easier than

regular? I had the orange stuff and I had it for a year and it was

okay, or perhaps with all the artificial stuff couldn't tell it was

bad.

Maybe keep it in cool, dry place? Last time I finished can in less

than a couple months though.

Re: Dr Shoemaker and sugar question. Dr Shoemaker addresses toxic

conditions and he doesn't address fungal infection issues as far as my

experiences. I don't think sugar is bad if you are ill with mold

toxins. However if you have " fungal infection " , sugar definately

should be avoided or used very sparingly.

With all kinds of vitamins, its important to keep them tightly sealed,

in a clean, cool and dry place.

Never leave a bottle or can open.. that is asking for trouble..

Some, like active probiotic cultures (super yoghurts, kefir, etc,

basically) should be refrigerated..

But make sure the lids are tight or they are double packed or they

might pick up smells from other foods?
