Guest guest
Has anyone else noticed a sudden flurry of the use of this term (or maybe 'meme' is more appropriate) " household mold " ? Perhaps something could be learned by how and when these terms come and go. I guess the idea is to make mold seem less threatening, and more common, sort of like " household pet " or the like? I sometimes wonder if some shadowy organization is behind the scenes coordinating the spin control efforts on mold illness. What do folks think about that? If there is, perhaps the word went out a few months ago " household mold - use this term " ... or something like that. Kind of like the whole " mildew " misnomer.. or promoting the concept of mold illness as simply an 'allergy' What do folks think about this? Guest guest
-Yes it gives the impression that mold is " common " and normal in most homes. And that everyone either already has it-- or will have it-- and no big deal. " user friendly " mold....
Guest guest
Its important to understand that the situations that produce trully sick buildings are usually truly abnormal situations. I think many people are trying to divert people from that realization.. Many households don't have any mold. The kind of situations that make people sick are situations that don't normally occur in well-maintained homes. For example, for stachybotrys to start to grow and actually produce mycotoxins, you need to have relative humidity in excess of 80-90% inside of wall cavities. In order for that to happen, you need an active source of water for an extended period of time. There is a direct relationship between " wall relative humidity " and mycotoxin production in many, actually I think most, of the worst fungi in sick buildings..
