The Integrative Therapeutics Liquid Calcium Magnesium contains magnesium oxide instead of magnesium citrate. Can anyone tell me the difference is? are they working the same for constipation? Also, there is an ingredient called "boron" there, is it safe to use? my dd is one now and I am trying to determine if I can use the same dosage as Kids Calm (we are on 150mg/day).Thanks!Lucy To: miralax Sent: Monday, March 12, 2012 12:39 PM Subject: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

We use Integrative Therapeutics Liquid Calcium Magnesium, vanilla flavor. Our pediatrician is comfortable with a daily dosage between 2 tsp. and 1 Tablespoon and this seems to be what my daughter needs. Although, we have friends who only use 1/2 tsp. In addition, because my daughter doesn't eat much dairy, the added calcium is a plus.

Thanks, JeanieAfter I read both link, I feel magnesium oxide will help more for constipation since it is not well absorbed and the leftover will be laxatives. Am I understanding right?Lucy To: "miralax " <miralax > Sent: Tuesday, March 13,

Pfeiffer treatment center recommends oxide, it's whatever your child can tolerate, Epsom salt baths contain sulfer and seems to make my dd in a daze afterwards, just found out about the sulfer from a smart woman on this groupTo: "miralax " <miralax >Sent: Tue, March 13, 2012 9:55:05 AMSubject: Re: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

ex-lax is senna and helps overnight. (I'm sure you'll need a stool softener) This is a very long time for anyone not to go. If one waits to long they could end up in the er where they inter-vein and they usually give GoLytely, which is PEG. They don't always eventually go.............if one waits too long, they become impacted and that isn't a fun thing for anyone to have cleaned out. They recommend no more than 5 days of not going. I would call your Physician and let them know you need

help................To: miralax Sent: Wed, March 14, 2012 6:43:43 PMSubject: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

I haven't posted here in some time, although it's not for lack of still struggling with daughter's BM's happening less than two weeks at a time :(. We've tried everything - cutting dairy, gluten, adding probiotics, even an adjustment, and she'll have the feeling but still avoid going. I've come to realize part of it is sensory issues for her so we're working on that. Calm magnesium has always been something I've tried but as she's gotten older I can't always get her to take things. So we're just working on probiotics, Rescue Remedy Bach Flower lozenges, and now we just added the Bluebonnet thanks to Yvette :) For the past week and a half she's struggled not to go since adding the probiotics again but she still hasn't gone and it's approaching the two week mark so I know it will happen but I gave her two TB's tonight of the magnesium to see if I could get things helped along.

Thank you Yvette for giving me another form of magnesium to try :)

Olive oil softens the stool Shaklee herb lax would help you but you need to soften the stool with a stool softener before giving anything to defecate or they will be in pain! To: miralax Sent: Wed, March 14, 2012 6:43:43 PMSubject: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

, Pineapple juice is an instant cure for hiccups. Does your dd have ileus from Miralax where the feeling just isn't there that she has to go? This is a big concern of mine with this med. How old is this child? To: miralax Sent: Wed, March 14, 2012 9:32:12 PMSubject: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

Jeanie, we have tried everything in the last couple of years and it is hugely affected by her sensitivity to everything. She knows she needs to go regularly and we talk about how everyone else including animals, poop every day but she says she doesn't need to go. After she's pooped, she has the feeling the very next day and the next and the next but no matter what she has she avoids it. The longest she ever went was three weeks - one of the times that I posted in distress here. Otherwise it's between 10 days to 14 days, no matter what I do. She gets the hiccups when she needs to go and this past week had them three times in one day but does everything she can do to avoid going, including not wanting to drink because it will make her pee which will make her poop. If we go to a doctor I am more concerned about additional traumitization. We have read the book "It Hurts When I Poop" as well as several others, to no avail. She gets it, just says it

isn't the same for her...that she poops when she wants to. The only thing that normally works is keeping her taking epsom salt baths and she will dance around in the tub until she starts to bend over with cramps and calls out "poopoo". But now she even wants to avoid baths or just wash her feet off with her pants on...so you tell me what a doctor is going to change other than give her Miralax... :(

Hi ,

Feel free to email me anytime. Jeanie the owner of the group is concerned that the longest your dd should miss a BM is 5 days. If she's taking 2 weeks to go she fears your dd may need a clean out & the drs will use PEG 3350 to do this.

Is she moving them at all?

How old is she & what is her weight?

Does she eat a balanced diet?

Is she drinking cows milk?

Sorry for so many questions but all of these apply to her ability to have BM.

, does she observe strict potty time. For example, with my DD, I used to put her on the potty with books, usually about 1/2 - 1 hour after a meal, and put the timer on for 20 minutes, whether she says she has to go or not. More often than not, she goes. I used to bribe, cajole and promise her her favorite things. Now, she goes on her own. She's 41/2.Also, if she will go for them, mangoes and papaya are excellent fruit for going because they have natural digestive enzymes. If not, then try other forms of digestive enzymes - maybe some here can suggest.Good luck. I FEEL for you and your

I forgot to ask do you reward for her pooping & make a BIG deal that she has gone?

This can help also.

If she's a toddler doing the potty dance once she goes making pooping fun can help.

Also if she's on an adult potty & her feet dangle will not help. Place a stool under her feet so she can push from her legs also.

the hiccups is a sure sign she is backed up, which I'm sure you already know, I was just giving you a tip on how to get rid of them as this is very painful for my dd who has excessive air in her tummy which the hiccups kick in as soon as she starts getting backed up. Wellness docs, Chiros, carry Ortho products which carry the digestive enzymes, health food stores may carry. http://www.amazon.com/Ortho-Molecular-Digestzyme-V-90-Capsules/dp/B000TYJ8JQ this is what they recommened for my dd. It gave her a tummy ache but it's not surprising! (made her go 4x day) great clean out.................http://member.myshaklee.com/us/en/products.php?sku=20633 Here is another one we tried but she really didn't take much as we had to stop both of them due to other issues for the moment. My dd wakes up choking in the middle of the night from the amount of gas and stool back up. She cannot burp, and has had an overload of gas since she took this miracle drug 10 years ago, followed by an extremely burning throat. It's horrible.........constipation is a horrible thing, and I couldn't blame them for hold their cheeks together when it's caused pain. they tried to say she was holding many years ago...........they were wrong..........there is definitely something wrong. The are talking about scoping her. The balloon noises were there when she was nursing and everyone thought I was just being an over protective new mom, here it

is 15 years later and the problem only got bigger.....................To: miralax Sent: Wed, March 14, 2012 11:19:23 PMSubject: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

You'll all have to forgive me because this all started more than three years ago. I found this forum about a year ago and might have been able to change a lot of things if we had found it earlier.

I'll answer all the questions here and also give a bit more background on my daughter.

We don't believe in reward systems, although I will say we have tried them a couple of times just to see if it would make a difference, and it did not. We have tried making a big deal about it when she goes to which she says I feel better and I'm going to go tomorrow and the day after and after etc, and when the next day comes and I start talking about sitting on the potty it's a big fat no. My daughter has a very strong personality and we work very hard on having respectful and trusting relationships in our family (part of the reason I only tried once with a babylax and after that refused to be so invasive). She is also VERY sensitive - very empathetic and would be considered a highly sensitive child. She is sensitve to itchy things, smells, light, etc so you can just imagine how much more traumatic having painful poops has been for her.

The potty dance I spoke of is more that when she is in the bathtub she tries to back up to things, pull my pants to her butt, hold her butt cheeks together, everything she can do to hold the poop in - did I forget to mention that she does know when she needs to go but has superhuman strength to hold it in...

I do have a stool but am going to get a potty seat that is the one inside the other so she also has more support.

---", does she observe strict potty time. She's 41/2."

I would have to physically hold her down to do that. She has always refused to sit on the potty and will go and pee when she's ready and will not sit for a poop.

We have done mangos, papayas, blueberries, strawberries, watermelon.

Jeannie - what is the digestzyme V works well, 4x day? Haven't seen that one yet.

We eat well most of the time - very little processed foods, organic fruits/veggies, grass fed meats, raw milk/raw yogurt when we have it, but she doesn't drink much milk anymore anyway.

We avoid hydrogenated oils and any processed foods we buy come from our health food store.

Hope this helps to shed more light.

thanks for all the help ;)

PMSubject: Re: Liquid Magnesium-Calcium Supplement

Thanks Jeannie, forgive if I was gruff I have been sick and DH away and my dog is dying so I was a bit overwhelmed last night. I realize if I was posting more it would be easier to respond but sometimes I feel like we live in a poop world and it gets tiring. I think I posted a long time ago that we don't vacc. She was only given hep b bcz we were in Argentina when she was born and it was mandatory. I had her by csection but she immediately started nursing and only stopped this past Christmas when she turned 5. Never a drop of formula. We also homeschool so thank goodness no shame associated with being in school and having potty issues. She didn't get any real solids until almost a year and still nursed on demand well after.

What I believe started it was a period when we were buying the little milk boxes and she was drinking 3 to 4 per day around 18 months which is when she had started using the potty. She was in cloth diapers and she was naked a lot. I realized her poops were large for a child...adult sized but was clueless about why. Anyway it started there and we probably added to the trauma in our various ways of coercing her to go :(

So here we are more than 3 years later and still working on it but ever more aware and so happy we have never given in to miralax although we did do a couple of other things occasionally until I realized what was inside.

One other thing and this is sort of indirectly related. We have worked hard on not coercing because I think that is also related. There is a book I am reading right now that some moms might find interesting. It is called Parenting For Social Justice by Graham Brett and amazon carries it. I am using it to help heal our relationship with our daughter that has been very strained by our trying to control her pooping.

I think you're on the right track.............I like kirkman's chewable probiotic b/c it has xylitol that works as a laxative AND has the beneficial bacteria!http://kirkmanlabs.com/ProductKirkman/184/1/Pro-BioandChewableWafers/ $58.00 out the door but I take antibiotics daily and can tell you that they work! so since she pooped last night I have given DD roughly 3TB of the Bluebonnet magesium and she got her probiotics today as well. I did not notice much discomfort today but I'm thinking maybe tomorrow it will start to show with all the magnesium. Any other suggestions now that she's had a recent BM? I would love to get her all cleaned out completely and try to keep moving from here.

thanks
