Re: Remediation and important papers

Hi Diane,

I too had to get rid of most of my things. Here is what I did..it is

work but, once they are put away, it is done forever! I feel safe

about my papers now. I first took all of my papers and let them air

on my deck in the sun. Of course, this was not done on a windy

day. :) If you can't air them, just file them packed and sealed.

Here is how I did mine:

Then I took my papers and placed them in an accordion folder and

placed in double bagged trash bags. Then I placed them in a rubber

maid container and sealed it. If you want to file them in a file

cabinet, you can get plastic gallon size freezer bags and seal them

individually or grouped.

When I get a copier I am going to take the ones I need and make clean

copies and keep the originals sealed.

On some papers like birth certificates, you can get replacements.

As long as they are in a seal container, you will be safe with them

but I would not go through them unsealed unless you are outside where

you will have plenty of ventilation and plus, you don't want those

musty papers getting mold stuff in your clean house, so filing

outside is best.

I hope this helps!

Diane, you might want to have your son laminate them (if that's legal

for a birth certificate) or scan them into a computer and put it all

on disks for you. It's worth it to store the legal papers somewhere in

plastic until you can apply for and get new ones.

Wear a mask and take your birth certificate/marriage license and place

them in a almost totally enclosed plastic sheet. Seal with tape so it

can be opened if you have to do that but you can't smell the mold.

Take a shower and wash hair.

I think if he gently takes your BC and whatever else is important and

individually puts them in 3/4 enclosed plastic sheets. That'll work.

Then seal the last end with magic tape so it can be opened if need be.

I did a combination of things-hired people to xerox papers I needed

for business, put all originals I needed to keep in plastic file

boxes labeled " toxic files " and put in a storage building. I will

have 2 storage buildings in my new place-one for " hot storage " -one

for " Cold "

Anything and everything we saved that was moldy (which wasn't much)

has been X'd with colored tape on two sides of the box OR written TOXIC.

I don't want my kids or grandkids going into these boxes after we're

gone. Or anyone else for that matter.
