Guest guest
When people in many cities have to move out of my apartment, for 'repairs' in order to keep them while they are being 'temporarily' 'renovated', all cities with rent stabilization laws require that people not rent other apartments, they need to stay in hotels. Signing another lease, anywhere, would mean that one would lose the right to return to your original apartment at the controlled rent. Even if you could afford the other place for a few months. (In our case we found a tiny studio month to month for around $2000 a month, but that was too expensive to *stay* in and extremely noisy, so we had to move again) Here is an article on hotel rates in cities these days... Number of Rooms Can't Meet Surging Demand A quote: " While the situation is acute in traditional high-cost cities such as New York — where room rates rose 15.4 percent last year to an average of $320.87, according to a recent American Express report — some of the strongest gains are in Asia. " That's $320 / per night http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/20/travel/20headsup.html
