Guest guest
Got up late this morning and only have a second to say good morning. Did get a email for mom's psychologist and he is getting together with mom's MD and they are going to start changing some things SLOWLY. He mentioned Abilify as an option. Any experience with that? On my way to do crafts and snacks at the NH in memory unit. Hugs, Donna Jean
Guest guest
Abilify is, I think, an antipsychotic and if so, is probably on the no-no list. It is for bipolar if I remember correctly. They used it, among many other antipsychotics, for my husband, and it caused a severe decline I think. I would Google this and get the side effects, and also, many of they will say if they should not be used with dementia. Also, check the bad med list on the LBDA site. ly, I don't think a psychologist is the person who should be treating LBD. Either a neurologist or psychiatrist who deals with dementia probably would be a better option. Perhaps you don't have a choice. Guest guest
Here's a post from re: Abilify: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/LBDcaregivers/message/59435 In regards to the antipscyotics... I'd suggest using those listed by Dr. Boeve (page 16): http://www.lewybodydementia.org/docs/DLB-BoeveContinuum04.pdf And from those listed - I'd suggest the first to be tried is Seroquel... as it's the weakest form and many of those w/ LBD have been successful on it... > > Got up late this morning and only have a second to say good morning. > Did get a email for mom's psychologist and he is getting together with > mom's MD and they are going to start changing some things SLOWLY.
