Guest guest
Early Puberty Caused By Fungus? Toxins Get Blame For Sexual Development In Girls February 11, 2008 KCCI.com - Des Moines,IA* http://www.kcci.com/family/15270471/detail.html Toxins in the environment may disrupt normal development in girls because they act like hormones such as estrogen, a new study said. According to a team at the University of Pisa, mycoestrogen, which is produced by a fungus species, may be directly linked to the early onset of sexual development in young girls. Dr. Francesco Massart studied girls with early puberty. Six of the 17 girls were found to have elevated levels of ZEA, the toxins produced by the fungus. " Although this finding might be incidental, ZEA may be related to (early puberty) in girls exposed to mycoestrogens, " Massart said. However, the presence of ZEA pollution could not explain the epidemic in the region, suggesting that other environmental factors such as herbicides and pesticides may be involved. The authors also noted that because of its chemical resemblance to some anabolic growth agents used in animal breeding, ZEA may promote accelerated growth in exposed children.
