has had within the year: encopresis, weight gain, behavior issues and sleep disturbances.Background:-Last April he had encopresis (constipation/ soiling) but we thought he was just not wiping properly. His behavior was starting to change: lying to friends etc. He would sort of wake just after falling asleep and would talk a bit then settle. Most nights he would wake again to go to the bathroom.. Weighed 99 lbs.-September encopresis was diagnosed and he took 2 liters of Peg-lyte to cleanse and was to take 1 cup a day to maintain. -mid October he went to a school overnight camp and soiled himself, the first accident since treatment. This caused great psychological problems for him, he became paranoid that everyone

was laughing at him. He made up serious lies to cover for this, like his father had been killed etc. Of course when his friends found out the truth, everything was worse. He started to have more difficulty with one teacher at the school and was frequently in the principal's office (was never there before this year at all).-In December, he continued having accidents regularly, so a new Dr changed the Peg-lyte to Miralax. His sleep wake ups became more rhythmic than awake, though not a seizure per se, but now I'm not sure. There was no longer a feeling though that he could hear our instructions in this state. During the Holidays we shared a hotel room, where I discovered that these wake ups were 3 times a night. . An appointment with a psychiatrist was scheduled for January.-In January we saw a gastro specialist, who said

that we had not been consistent with the Miralax, and as long is he is soiling himself, even if occasionally, then he is not having enough. She suggested once a month to do 10 tablespoons over a day to cleanse. We did this Jan 26 and Feb 26.-end of January: The Psychiatrist put him on Risperdone. We tried this for 4 weeks and saw no improvement.-In March, again on holiday as we shared the same room, and after 5 days of beach activity, our son had a grand mal seizure followed by smaller seizures. 2 days later, another seizure and smaller ones, followed by the next day 2 grand mal and 24 small seizures. We went to the hospital, stayed for 2 days. They did MRI, CT scans, blood all normal. X-ray of colon and upped the Miralax to twice a day for a week. EEG's showed anomalies, and they now say he has nocturnal epilepsy. They

put him on Trileptal and Clonazapam for the seizures. The clonazapam made him fall asleep, so they took him off this. A new neurologist upped the trileptal and our son became manic.-April : He had to be hospitalized after 3 days of the manic behaviour, and he remained in the psychiatric ward for 12 days as they switched his medicine and tried to cope with his belligerent behavior. I just discovered your site and wonder if the Miralax contributed to the seizures and behavior deterioration. There is no question that his behavior was getting worse, but the really bad episodes began in January and continue to today. Could the Miralax have aggravated what he may have been pre-disposed too? He now weighs 125 lbs, is so belligerent that we are considering mental health residence, is now sleeping through the night due to

My son is six and he eats at least a half a bar a day with the cultrelle. After a while the cultrelle did not have the same effect and he would begin to get moody....I would give him a half a bar and within one hour he would be back to happy mode.

The theory is that the clostridia feeds on lactose and so do the bifidum strains, so the bifidum strains compete against the clostridia for food helping to crowd out the clostridia from the large intestines. Jeanie,thanks for your input. what can i do to make my aggressive and unhappy 6 year old girl better?i just changed the probiotics to culturelle instead of some acidophilis that was probably not great.she ate better today after ONE day of culturelle than she has in a while. Not sure if it is related or not but she usually has NO appetite. Still no poop...day 3 of adult doses of laxatives. a rgh.jeanie ward wrote:

You can also hit search mail to find the article and many posts I've posted. It's in the files section also. I am certain about this and would very much like to bring this to anyones attention. I just needed enough proof before I moved forward. There are almost 1300 people on this group and about 1400 FDA adverse reactions now. I started with and I, and 6 people from the FDA......... ......... I am most certain now, and knew I'd be writing to all of you 10 years ago......... ......... .I said it then and I'll say it again....... ......... ..If this didn't happen, I wouldn't have ONE person who submitted to the FDA, and if this didn't happen, I wouldn't have ONE

person who reported an adverse reaction to this group.

This saddens me to think that probiotics were never introduced before this volitile chemical is put into their systems and something as inocent as a constipation issue, now becomes a life changing dose of medication. I feel for every parent, family and especially the child as I have seen first hand what it's done to the brain of my dd.

Is it because the bad bacteria that existed prior to miralax is causing leaky gut and then miralax is then absorbed via the leaks? Or is there a chemical reaction between miralax and bacteria/bacteria by products?

Angi, over the years we've read hundreds of posts with the same behavoir that usually start like this:

my young mild manner dd took Miralax and now she attacks us.... tried kicking the window out of the mini van......... .....tried to scratch out my other dd's eyes, etc. We hear this over and over and over again....... ......... ......... .I'm convinced, I've seen this with my own dd. We put the group together and BINGO....... ......... .they all came by the thousands

thanks for the heads up on the culturelle.i just printed off a $3 coupon from their website and bought some and will start tonight with my daughter.she has been on probiotics forever but i am thinking that maybe they are the wrong ones. she is a mess...her adhd and oppositional behavior as well as sensory issues are a nightmare. she attacks us even!she rages and is miserable and i do think it seemed to start when she was on antibiotics for a year daily.angijeanie ward wrote:
