Guest guest
Many parents complain that their children exhibit tourettes symptoms and autistic symptoms upon taking PEG ----- Forwarded Message ----To: "miralax " <miralax >Sent: Sat, September 24, 2011 8:24:14 AMSubject: Miralax story / tourettes Re: Miralax question for members of the club...Several months ago, I found out that the Mayo Clinic recommends different dosing guidelines for pediatric use of Miralax. I think this is because Braintree Labs (manufacturer of Miralax - Polyethelene Glycol 3350) has in the last couple years done some pediatric studies with Miralax, and the dose the pediatric studies used dosages FAR LESS than the dose that many GI docs are telling us is OK to use for our kids. The pediatric dose that Braintree Labs used in their study is based upon the child's weight. The half-capful (17 gm.) is an adult dose. Actually Miralax (like many pediatric drugs) is not yet officially approved by the FDA for pediatric use, so there are no official dosing guidelines published yet, but it does seem reasonable that a pediatric dose should be less than an adult dose, doesn't it? My child was on 17 gm. dose for 4 1/2 years, and I did not know that was an adult dose. Everytime I tried to wean her off it, she would stop having BM's, so I kept on giving her the Miralax until she developed neuro symptoms like those of Tourette's syndrome. I took her off the Miralax, cold turkey, last Sept. 25, and the Tourette's symptoms started to lessen immediately. I know most kids don't appear to have adverse side effects with this med, but I wish my doctor had looked for the underlying REASON WHY my daughter had such a hard time pooping, instead of just treating the symptoms. There is a 3-day digestive analysis stool test (Genova Labs) that can evaluate the good bacteria vs. bad bacteria environment of the colon. My daughter's constipation had started with antibiotics that had wiped out all her good bacteria in her colon (at age 18 months). When that situation was addressed with high quality probiotics, she has been much better. I hope that you can try some of the other more natural alternatives to help your child poop. http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25859
