Guest guest
Mom absolutely hated blender - baby food kind of meals. She declined eating the meat paste stuff served in the hospital. She was ok with tranditional foods that were basically served in the traditional manner. Pretty much anything I made for her, she would eat, provided that I ate some of it with her / beside her. My mom liked oat meal. I bought the oat meal in big cans, and microwaved individual servings from that. I always stirred in a dollop of real butter. I figured that she needed the energy. The fat in the butter helps the digestive system absorb vitamins. To balance the diet and vitamins, I bought variety packs of Carnation Instant Breakfast, and stirred in a packet of carnation instant breakfast, into the oatmeal. Then I sometimes thinned or thickened it with yogert rather than milk. I bought plain yogert in half gallon tubs, and lots of jars of applesauce. Our freezer was the source of lots of stuff, like lots of frozen diced up ruhbarb. We also fixed 'tons' of rhubarb sauce, sometimes mixed with applesauce. Rhubarb is a great natural laxative. Egg salid made from mashed up boiled eggs, real butter and a bit of salt & pepper was also one of mom's staples. Small helpings of Chicken or Ham Salid was ok also. Jello with fruit coctail seemed to go down pretty well. Then there is that other old standby, Chicken Soup. Janet, the idea of thickening with mashed potatoes is great. While at the grocery store my chest sarted to hurt, and I figured i was heading for a panic attack. I had my meds and took the xanax to get me mellowed out. Jim called while I was on my way home to tell me he has a bad axel on his boast trailer, so I should stay by the phone in case I needed to go get him. he sensed in my voice i was on the verge of losing it, so he got less demanding. while i was on the phone with him the lady who is proofing my Teacher of the Year application called. I was just in the driveway, so Millie came out to ask if it were okay to use the toilet. I had frozen foods to get, a lady on the phone who is doing me a favor, and grandma needing directions to the potty. Calgon! Calgon! get over here, now! Millie then needed to know if it would be okay if she had a bowel movement. I am still on the phone with the proofer, and the pooper is whining in my other ear. I guess this is my pay back for always mentioning poop, because then Millie wanted coaching turd, by turd. She asked how long she should sit there, and if it was all out. the xanax is still in the process of working and Millie is in the bathroom giving it her best, and I decide to run her a bath as she is half undressed, and in dire need of a bath. So thirty minutes later I have scrubbed, dried and fed Millie and she has gone off for a nap with the Chihuahua. I am waiting for the proofer to get back in touch with me. I still know this is the best plan, it is just three things hit within 10 minutes and i was ready to put all the Exelon patches on me at once and drift away! The xanax wipes me out, so i am going to get a nap, if i can. Otherwise my schoolwork is done, and I so once this application is finished, i can rest a bit. No manatees for me today, although my grandkids did come over for a swim yesterday. We had a great time in the river, and that is always a good time. I'll be watching the e-mails like a hawk. Guest guest
Carol,, I am sorry, it is one of those messages from you that has me laughing so hard I can't stand it. Between the pooper and proofer, I just started needing a Kleenex to wipe the tears away from laughing to help me read the rest of the message. And it seems that is always the way it goes, when it rains, it pours, they say. How many jobs can one person do. And by the time I got to she " needed help, turd, by turd " I was in full laughter and tears. I always hesitate to write back when I read you messages. I am so sure it wasn't funny at the time. How many people can pull on an arm or leg or ear all at the same time. I am sure I would be laughing right now with your very descriptive writing if I were still a caregiver as I could so identify. I use to try and talk to clients with Mom in the room, (if I went out of the room, I was talking about her) and she would answer questions I was talking to clients about. Then when I would tell her to please wait a moment, my clients would say " OK " and I would be back to telling them I did not mean them. Hope you finally got that Xanax nape. Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine. Re: Need some ideas for dentureless dinners/Carol Carol, I won't elaborate too much as you have received some really good ides already here. Don't forget about sneaking some tofu into whatever you need protein in. Also, if Millie likes yogurt you can add all kinds of good soft or blended stuff to that. , Oakville Ont.
