Guest guest
You don't say whether the first number, 9 mm, is from an MRI report, but I suspect so. One possibility is that the visual slice on the MRI is at an angle that does not tell the whole story. An MRI is a series of visual slices, very close to each other. It is not a continus video. For instance, if the MRI were taking a picture of an egg inside of a box it would be just as easy to get only the narrow end view of the egg as it would be to get the widest area around the middle. Both would be a very different measurement. It is not unusual for a doctor to find a longer herniation once they get inside the head because of a difference between the visual slice and reality. On MRI's my hearniation was considered to be 5 cm or less, but once they got into my head it turned out to be closer to 8 cm, and it was kinda of wiggly around the other tissues. (I think mine was a cm measurement not mm.) Hanna decompressed 2002 Subject: Herniation larger after decompression To: Date: Monday, September 1, 2008, 1:21 AM I have a question. It has been over a year since my second revision and final surgery. When I had my first surgery I had a diagnosis of CM1 with 9mm herniation. Tonight I was reading over my operative report from Doctor Ellenbogen who only did my final revision who noted that he saw my herniation at 3cm. How is this possible. That my herniation went form 9mm to 3cm.
