The normal cycle of hair growth lasts for two to six years. Each

hair grows approximately one centimetres (less than half an inch)

per month during this phase. After two to three months, the hair

falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place. Normally, some

hair will fall daily as part of this cycle.

However, some people may experience excessive hair loss.

What causes excessive hair loss? Many factors can cause excessive

hair loss.

For example, about three or four months after an illness or a major

surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair.

Hormonal problems can also cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is

overactive, your hair may fall out. Hair loss may occur if male or

female hormones, known as androgen and estrogen, are out of balance.

Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss.

Some medicines can cause hair loss. Medicines that can cause hair

loss include anticoagulant, medicines used for gout, medicines used

in chemotherapy, birth control pills and antidepressants.

Fungal infections can cause hair loss in children. Finally, hair

loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or

diabetes. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it is

important to find the cause so that it can be treated.

Is there any treatment for hair loss? Depending on your type of hair

loss, treatments are available. If a medicine is causing hair loss,

your doctor may be able to help you by proscribing a different

medicine. Recognising and treating an infection can also help to

stop hair loss.

Medicines may also help slow or prevent the development of common

baldness. It may take up to six months before you can tell if these

medicines are working.

Treatment by Photo Trichostimulation: This is a technique used to

treat patients suffering from hair loss using medicines and non

invasive light based technology.

Each session take about 20 to 30 minutes and based may require 8 to

20 sittings.
