OSU Extension Service will hold a free, educational program, "

Household Mold: What You Need to Know. " An overview of mold and

moisture problems in housing in the Pacific Northwest, Feb. 27, 7 to

9 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office, 18640 NW

Road #1400, Beaverton. The program will distinguish fact from

fiction in this highly publicized issue. The focus will be on mold

problems in single family homes and multi-family housing.

The program will be presented by Tsongas, a private

consulting engineer and a Professor Emeritus of Mechanical

Engineering at Portland State University in Oregon. Tsongas is a

building scientist with specialization in moisture and mold problems

in residences.

Topics will include the sources of excess moisture, mold and related

health problems that can occur, what causes the problems, how to

detect and diagnose them, effects of weatherization and air

tightening on them, mold cleanup and what can be done to prevent or

remedy mold and moisture problems. Practical solutions will be

emphasized.

This program is for anyone who must deal with mold and moisture

problems in single family or multi-family residences, including

homeowners, renters, apartment owners, managers and maintenance

personnel, building inspectors, as well as realtors, builders,

remodelers, health officials, insurance personnel, and utility and

low income housing weatherization personnel.

Sponsored by funds from HUD, and hosted by OSU Extension Service,

there is no charge for this program but seating is limited. Please

call OSU Extension Service at 503-725-2101 for more information and
