I just love this place these days. The monsoon is already here. It has rained

for almost every day for the last few weeks. It is cloudy even when it does not

rain. There is always a cool breeze gently soothing the body. We have not

experienced the summer at all. It is unspeakably pleasant.

Rain has changed the landscape completely. There is limitless greenery all

around. The whole place looks clean, washed with freshness. You can feel this

freshness. Mist-covered mountains in the background complete the picture. The

verdant scene is intoxicating in its effect. A long walk is a favoured activity

for us. It is even better if one simply wanders off alone. ly, I like to

lose myself in such alluring surroundings. The ambience caresses the soul.

Someone hosted a dinner today. We spent the evening outside. A band had come to

entertain the guests. Music sounds sweeter in this type of environment. The band

felt encouraged as the evening progressed. The gathering also warmed up for some

good music. They sang a variety of songs. It was a mix of Hindi and English

numbers. The singers were, I think, had come prepared as to what they should be

singing. Quite expectedly, love was the main theme of all their renderings.

Every performance touched my heart.

I came back from the dinner with a wooly sensation in the mind. There was an

equally vague feeling in my heart. The songs I had listened to had a strange

effect on me. I wished I could fly away to be with my wife. Since that was not

possible, I did the next best thing. I grabbed my phone and called her. My

adolescence was bubbling over by then. She had barely finished saying

‘hello’ and I started singing to her. It is one of my favourites: Zindagi

mein to sabhi pyaar kiya karte hain; main to mar ke bhi meri jaan tujhe

chahunga...

She was prompt in her response and said teasingly; “Sorry, I would never love

a ghost.†Then she giggled.

The woolly sensation that you describe, Bharat, was that Scotch?

And if one's wife is not there, you have said that you did the next best

thing! I will strongly disagree with you that phoning her up is the next

best thing! I can think of four- five other options which are much better.

That is because you have a dirty mind Ashok.

There are other nice options like reading a book or watching TV or even

emailing or playing games on the comp!
